Chrome Shower Waste & Bleach!

Hi all, SWMBO put some bleach into the shower and went to work. When we got home the waste now has taken on some sort of copper effect - which is in reality the chrome being taken off.....

Now, much as I like the copper look it doesnt look right!

So, any chance of reversing this, I doubt it, as rubbing it with some Jif and a toothbrush looks like it is taking it back to plastic - so I assume the waste is chrome effect over plastic rather than solid.

Failing reversing the process does anybody know if there is a product that I can use to 'rechrome' the waste, maybe paint or similar?

Now before you ask, the shower is fitted and I cant see anyway of getting the waste out to replace it without getting underneath the shower base and I cant see anyway of doing this....
