Damn!

Local wind farm application has just gone back in.

It was thrown out earlier in the year as some local parents with two autistic children complained it would've affected their childrens lives for the worse.

This family are now driving around in a nice new car, and the application is back in (read into that what you will).

Has anyone else had a wind farm battle? We, as a village, just don't know what to do now, it's as though these things are rail-roaded through.

Basic issue is location, simple sketch to follow.....

Quick cross-section through the local topography.....

Wind farms are OK where they are not a) directly visible from peoples houses/gardens and b) are not obscuring beautiful views........

We know we have no chance now of getting these things turned down, our last hope might be to contact the RAF who use the Trent and Lincolnshire Ridge in this location to practice something or other (believed to be bombing raids or low level flying)......?!

There are about 10 turbines 2 miles in the opposite direction, but these are fine. They are in a dip, located away from anyones direct views, on the edge of the old steelworks land....

I'm not against them in the right location, I could still see them if they were to the South in the industrial part of North and Eastern Shorpe, but they're just sited in the wrong place?!

I take it noone has had any near them then?

Maybe not, so why don't they build them to look like 19th C windmills?

They are planning wind turbines near us and we aren't overjoyyed but it ain't the end of the world

Think about it the way we do

Windturbine or council estate?

I know exactly what i would choose
No chance of a council estate, village is tied by tight development boundary...and if they want to build council houses down at the bottom of the hill, in the flood plain - they can knock themselves out.

I'm not against the turbines at all, and I think they look fine against the right back-drop. Put them in industrial / commercial areas, of which there are loads around the outskirts of this town....!

They are generally location dependant, putting them amongst existing buildings isn't really a sensible option.
Probably because of the noise! They have a few in my local industrial estae and you can't hear yourself think when the wind gets the going properly!

Or maybe because of the danger when they fail!
Not amongst....adjacent to, with industrial back drop...not a problem!

One thing I never considered is 'shadow flicker'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbIe0iUtelQ

This effect more that anything else would REALLY get on my tits.
I'd never thought about that effect. Having seen the you tube clip I agree that it would be a tad annoying!!
I agree, something I'd never thought of too. It is annoying.

That said, I think that would be more than fair grounds for a planning denial in the UK where things are a little stricter.
I can see some applications being turned down due to epilepsy sufferers / severe migraine sufferers?

I find it quite annoying when a double decker bus goes past but for hours...grrrrr.
The first Application was thrown out due to a woman with 2 autistic sons....but it doesn't seem to affect them now....something to do with their new car as I said before?!

Im sorry you have a little windfarm going in - exactly how many turbines - 10 ?.

It is hardly the end of the world they only get commissioned for roughly 20/30 years and must have a decommission plan. As stated I think your only issue on grounds of objection is access/egress for the turbines. If you dont know have a search on how they get transported !

I have this within 5 miles of me - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scout_Moor_Wind_Farm
Also have a proposed 24 further turbines going ahead next year. NIMBY will fail trust me on the opposition your mounting at the moment.

7 turbines? I had the impression of a farm of around 30-50 turbines. It's not exactly huge is it?
I never said it was - 1 is too many in that location!
