Had a BBQ the other day with a new gas cylinder. It would not fit underneath the BBQ, so I had to pull the gas pipe out to the back which was not really long enough and connect the cylinder on an angle. The pipe and the cylinder were touching the drip tray, but didn't think it would get that hot.

Checked it about 1 hour later and saw the following, would it have just blown up if left for a few more minutes? Thank God I checked it.





Off to Cheltenham races now,, lets hope my luck continues...

I don't think it would have exploded - the actual cylinder is steel, that melted bit is just a handle. You might have got a nice jet of flame from the end of that hose if it had melted through, though.
Its one of those new plastic cannisters from BP - no metal...
