Thanks - it's utterly heartbreaking knowing he's probably not got long with us. He's a rescue - we took him on in 2006 at about 1yr old we think. Not entirely sure of background but no sudden movements or he'd disappear behind the curtain, or under the table. Still can't deal with work trousers or brooms, completely flips out. They (something like 80 odd dogs) were running in a field, and he was skin and bone when we first got him. Didn't know what toys were, and had never been on a lead so lots and lots of steady work with him to begin with. He's actually the only one that survived - the rest of his brothers from our particular centre (they split them across the country) had to go back and were put down due to emotional issues and biting etc., but he's incredibly loving, having initially hated being near people!

Some frustrations along the way as we seem to have been mucking about with experimentation - foods that have made him ill, and generally far too many scans, jabs and generals for my liking, even though we tried asking for a referral to a specialist. We've now got that, and he goes on Tuesday, but a good few months in he's now a gibbering wreck at the vets after all the poking and prodding, poor sod, and has lost about 7 kilos very suddenly! frown I guess we wait and see, but the two options they think it is don't sound brilliant, plus the liver lump, although small, is slap bang in the middle...

Sorry for the long post, it's vaguely cathartic!

You know your dog better than any Vet so go with what you feel is best for him.
Listen to them of course but then remember quality of life is so important for both him and you.
This is something I have faced 3 times in the last 6 years and its not easy but in the end I seemed to know when the time was right.
Best of luck mate and don't give up hope.
^^ This. And don't ever apologise for sharing your stories and concerns here.

you can discuss most things on PH but it usually ends up as a personal scrap between a few posters,
Not here though you see everything that is good in people and in our Dogs, I always come here if I need to smile.
We have our first puppy after having had 5 mature rescue Dogs and seeing him tired out after playing is worth all the hard work.

Ambers first walk - thought we'd get her used to being off the lead and gave her this opportunity to see if her recall training over the last few weeks has been going well.

The family dogs together - Kira (husky - 5yrs old) and Sky (gsd - 18wks old)

You could mistake them for being from the same family, although Kira isn't sure about having another puppy around having only recently started to tolerate Sky. Amber follows her everywhere though.

Sky loves her new playmate though!

Muddy Amber:

All washed and relaxing at home:

Also got this; what started as a nice series of photos of Kira running towards us...check out the lethal tackle in the background!

Posted pics a while ago of Bella the fierce boxer, she has now been joined by "The Ginger One". Willow is 21 months old and we re homed her just before Christmas. She appears to have settled in well smile

Cracking Boxer, seems like she has been with us forever.

Thanks biggrin Yeah she's going to be a big dog. Even at 9 weeks her paws were bigger than Kiras!

My little fella is about 18-20 weeks he was rescued from a puppy farm and was approx. 1.4kg at 6 weeks.
He is still playing catch up though and is now approx. 22kg.
