The dogs will be ok, it’s the 20 owners and their families I don’t want to share a park with..

That event, if it goes ahead with more than literally one man and his dog, might turn in to more of a protest now as the Scottish Government have confirmed today that a ban WILL be going ahead. Very good news.

The weirdos who enjoy having these beasts as status symbols and to intimidate others will now have to muzzle them, keep them on a lead and pay a fortune for insurance. Nice.

I was once walking back from hospital , about 12 years old , I heard dogs barking & then had 2 large Alsatian’s came out of a garden & straight for me , owner raced out & couldn’t deal with both of them and my legs & arms were bitten & I ended back up in Frenchay hospital , I’d of been in big trouble if the owner hadn’t come out , dad / police were involved but dogs wernt put down
Sister had a Doberman who was lovely with wife / my daughter , whether he saw some kind of fear in me I don’t know but would stalk / follow me , run at me in field when we walked him with sister / bil , and one night I came out of bathroom to see him stood on landing , , hastily back in bathroom , door locked & shouting sister / bil to come & help me
I’m a big unit but those 2 Alsatian’s have given me a irrational fear of dogs ,
So I can 100% see the point of the ban , but those 2 Alsatian’s could of inflicted some real damage that day if that owner wasn’t present , had loads of stitches , so not t just bully xx
Think Doberman was just playing on my fear , a game , silly man
Nb in the end whilst I was shaking / locked in bathroom my 7 yr old girl at time came up & got him & took him back downstairs ( embarrassing)

If you've been attacked by a dog(s) in the past, I'd say a fear of dogs it completely rational and nothing to be embarrassed by.

I've never understood why people insist on owning dogs they cannot control. One is bad enough but then doubling down and getting a 2nd is just madness. Local to us I often see 2 women walking a bull-terrier type dog, I've never been near to it but everything about their body language makes me nervous. If they see another dog, they'll stop, move well over to the side out the way, or turn around completely. The dog isn't barking, pulling at the lead, but the way they tense up and grip the lead you can see they don't trust the dog's reactions. I'll usually turn around or take a different route to avoid them, both women are fairly small and I doubt they'd be able to hold the dog back if it really wanted to go. Utter madness and I don't see what pleasure owning something like that can give you.

Possibly a fearful or reactive dog so they are being responsible by going the other way when they see confrontation!

To me that is being responsible, sometimes you don’t know what type of dog you’re getting as a pup, good owners deal with it and don’t abandon their dogs like lots are doing.

You’re making a lot of assumptions about a dog you don’t know, that, as you say looks totally calm because of the way its owners are acting.

Nastiest piece of work Ive ever encountered was a Dalmatian, that was one vicious animal, properly went for me and marked my arm, luckily it was tied up.

There is another one lives a mile from me, attacked a runner, went for his face but he seen it coming and lifted his arm to protect himself so it grabbed him in the armpit, ended up in hospital.

But hey, they are big, goofy white dogs with spots and have been in films, no harm done.

No matter whats said her, this is down to ownership responsibility and not the dog, you need to realise the type of dog you talking on and act accordingly, sadly because of the look a bully has it attracts a certain type that’s not as interested in other dogs that could kill but don’t look the part thus the issue with the breed.

All I’m saying is don’t judge them all by the actions of a few, if you see a dodgy looking owner, yes by all means give the dog and them a wide birth but if you do see someone that you honestly think looks a normal, responsible owner ask them if you can meet the dog, honestly you’ll be surprised how friendly they can be :-)

That XL Bully meet up mentioned a few post up has been cancelled following the announcement of a ban in Scotland. The organiser saying “We can’t afford for anything to go wrong. If we have any silly people bringing dogs etc…"

They don't really trust each other or the dogs.

This was the same with a lot of the protests in England after the ban was announced, where owners protested but didn't bring the dogs along, as they knew that even without any incidents people would see all the XLs and think, bloody hell, they look quite dangerous.

A dog training class I went to had a Dalmatian in it. A nippy thing which ended up injuring one of the other dogs and being banned from the class.

The amazing thing was that despite it being aggressive towards other dogs without any real provocation the owner (against the advice of the instructor) went ahead and bred from it.

Funny enough I was just chatting to a colleague in work yesterday who has working dogs, she also said about a Dalmatian that her parents owned years back, proper nasty with dogs but also had went for people without any provocation at all, said she never really trusted it.

When peope breed for looks and don't care about temperament that is what you get. Sure, much behaviour is down to how dogs are socialised and trained and not genetics but not all. Any dog that is a regular biter of either other dogs or people or aggressive should not be bred from IMO.

Read the report courtesy of the Mail, and it is absolute XL Bully cliche bingo card… wannabe rapper, unlicensed dogs and breeder, multiple previous reports, quoted to say ‘no one is going to tell me what to do with my own f*****g dogs.'… who could have predicted the tragic consequences.

So with the new laws and restrictions in place, he was clearly breeding, seems his dogs were unregistered and they both killed someone, what can his sentence be, hope it's harsh?

Well, assuming the accused is found guilty, it is a golden opportunity for the courts to lay down a marker on the types of sentences that offenders can expect.
Being cynical, it’ll probably take about 2 years to reach court, and he’ll get 20 hours of community service.
