I hope it's not against the rules to upload other people's cats, as this is my neighbour's cat who also gets shut outside (even in the pouring rain...) and likes nothing more than to come and keep me company when I'm working at home.*
* not that it has it's own seat and cushion in my office, or anything....

Our pair of Birmans taught us a lesson in patience over the weekend. Nimbus, the older of the two, caught a rat on Friday evening and, naturally, bought it in to show us. It slipped her clutches at some point (I suspect she was playing with her food….) and disappeared behind the iron façade of one of our fireplaces. No way to get it out without demolishing the fireplace. The cats took it in turns to sit and guard the fireplace for almost 48 hours, swapping places when one wanted a feed or toilet break. Finally, on Sunday evening, the rat emerged and was quickly dispatched by Nimbus with Nova showing keen interest. That's four rats in the past week. I suspect the compost heap next door may be the source....

He looks lovely and very accommodated! * not that it has it's own seat and cushion in my office, or anything....
Both my neighbours either side of me have cats that live out side. Both like the idea of cats, but won't let them inside. One side has 4 cats, including another new kitten kept in a rabbit hutch until its older. At least she has them spayed/neutered though. Two of them we feed when we get the chance, I've even named them Fred and Wilma. hehe. The other neighbour has two cats that seems to live and sleep in a pile of leaves by the side of her house.
Sorry to hear that Gad.
We had to say good bye to this chap on Saturday morning.
He'd had a good innings. Nearly sixteen years old and diabetic for the last three and a half.
He had a relapse Friday night/Saturday morning and you could see in his face it was "time".
Doesn't make it any easier though.
RIP Eric.

My last photo of Scraggy. Yesterday we took the final trip to the vet.
2 and a half years after turning up a walking skeleton, all the food he could eat, all the drugs and operations he needed, usually with at least one shaved patch at all times, and free choice of seats (typically the one you just stood up from). He did well, but nature wins again.
We are on a similar journey with Lyra. She hasn't had to have the operations (yet), but she turned up at our old house a few years ago looking ill.2 and a half years after turning up a walking skeleton, all the food he could eat, all the drugs and operations he needed, usually with at least one shaved patch at all times, and free choice of seats (typically the one you just stood up from). She was stick-thin, didn't trust men at all (have had to work on that, but she's fine now) and although someone 'owned' her, she didn't want to be there. We think she used to live on an estate around the corner from our old house. The family we think she lived with were abusive and the parents treated the kids like st. God knows how they treated a pet!
It seems like they didn't treat her very well actually, so I guess she wanted out. First of all it was the odd garden visit, then it was the continual garden presence. Then she disappeared for a month and re-emerged with a very abusive note attached to her collar. After that, she lived in our garden all summer. Then she disappeared and, once again, returned a month later starving with a disgusting note sellotaped to her collar (basically saying the person looking after her was a bh and they should be careful as they will be fked up etc).
It was now winter time. My fiancee provided a lovely warm, waterproof bed for her (using an old pet carrier) and we continued feeding her and letting her in the house when it was bitterly cold. We were informed at the time by a vet that due to her condition, she would have probably died if she was left outside.
At this point, she stayed and stayed. She never went back to her old home. We checked the local vets in the area for missing cat posters. We had her scanned to see if a microchip was present. There wasn't. After a good 9-10 months of continual presence we decided that if we moved (the house was for sale), she would come with us.
The house sold so again we visited the local vets and again she was scanned. Still no microchip and still no evidence of any missing cat posters.
At the point we left the old house, she had been living with us in the garden and in the house for nearly a year. There was simply no evidence that anyone else missed her, so we moved her with us.
Since then at our new house, she has been the most happy moggy I've ever known. She has a big garden to play in and is fussed and loved every day. She has a beautiful, caring personality and has never lashed out or shown any aggression to us (even on vet visits). She is now part of the family and follows my fiancee around everywhere. It will be interesting to see how it goes with the baby we are due to have in October.
I've never had a moggy as part of the family before. I'm so glad that Lyra found us.
Haha. My Shorthair does that as well. Except that usually he does it when I'm in the bed and he takes up most of the space. Plus he snores as well.
I have also trapped him under the duvet when I've farted which he seems to find very unfunny.
I've only had him 2 months and I'm away this week and I miss him already. He is such a funny character.
