Effective dog whistle deterrent device.
Discussion
Well, two whistles have arrived, and just by testing them I can tell there are worse than useless! One simply IS a whistle, makes a standard whistling noise. The other, more expensive metal one, makes a weak and raspy high pitched sound that is clearly audible and not loud in the slightest. The tone is adjustable, but there is nothing 'ultrasonic' about it.
Little rat dog yapping in the garden next to my folks house totally ignored both whistles..........

That's a shame!Little rat dog yapping in the garden next to my folks house totally ignored both whistles..........
My device is still on its way from China....
Had another word with neighbours (politely) but they just sort of slunk away.
Got home last night at 22:00 and it was barking away for an hour.
Stuck some boots on and grabbed a hammer but wife prevented me leaving the villa. She says she will have another word with them.......

CS is useless on dogs.
What you actually want is a can of bite back spray.
FYI, useless on sheep too. What you actually want is a can of bite back spray.
Some cyclists have used Dazer in the past. It's not 100% effective by any means.
Have you seen the Angry Ram videos?

OP. I presume your dogs are ex street dogs? What made you choose those and not the others. To be honest I would have hundreds living at home but I suppose you have to draw the line somewhere.
Five were street dogs, or given by locals, the others came along most naturally. There were more, eleven at one stage, but we gave three pups away and one of the older dogs died from unknown causes.
We have the mix and match half breed dogs because I can't see any reason to choose some designer fashion dog actually, the dog doesn't know he is a fashion statement, and is just as happy as something that costs $1000 from a puppy factory.

Thanks. How are you viewed out there as it's my understanding (wrongly I suspect) that dogs are almost vermin.
Every house has at least one dog, but they are looked at as almost just a piece of meat, no feelings, no emotions. Some are locked in a tiny cage, for life, some live on a short length of rope, and that is where they stay. Near our place is a big Rotweiler, in a small cage, and I've walked our dogs past his house at all times of the day and night, and this poor bugger is in that cage every time I go by, Locals generally don't care if their dogs are hurt or suffering, it means nothing to them. Things are improving, slowly but surely, but it is still sad to see the way many dogs, animals in general, are treated like a disposable throwaway commodity.

Well my £5 (inc delivery) device arrived from china.
Stuck a 9V battery in and had a few tests.
In most powerful mode it flashes the lights (why?), fires a red laser (pointless) and emits an ultrasonic noise.
Every time the dog next door has barked I've fired it through a gap between our garden and theirs.....it works! Stops barking and starts whining!
Next step will be to clap my hands twice before firing the device, hoping that after a few weeks of this the hand clapping will suffice.
Yet to try it on a dog face to face. Never have a problem with the loose ones anyway here. Locals occasionally get bitten because they act so scared of them...
Saved next doors from a throat-cutting I think, which has to be good!

That was what I was hoping to find, something electronic, but nothing seemed to catch my eye. I've heard you can get some that turn on automatically when a dog barks. Which would be great!
Where did you order yours from? Maybe they'd deliver to my place.
eBay! There are loads on there that will activate by barking or by sensor as well.Where did you order yours from? Maybe they'd deliver to my place.
I'll post a link up in the morning for you.....

That's so depressing for an animal lover to read Locals generally don't care if their dogs are hurt or suffering, it means nothing to them. Things are improving, slowly but surely, but it is still sad to see the way many dogs, animals in general, are treated like a disposable throwaway commodity.

I saw one last night, on a rope, that tied to the roof frame of a garage, poor bugger couldn't even lay down, hope he is not there all night.
It is impossible to talk to these people about it, they just get defensive and usually abusive if a foreigner starts trying to tell them they are doing something wrong. They will try to laugh it all off, but if you push the point then they get insulted, no matter how calm and friendly you try to be towards them.

Went round again yesterday - these people own a lot of land, our villa and neighbours are built on it. It really is like going round to see primitive people; they've got a lot of kids mixed in with a lot of dogs. Even my wife was shocked and she lived until 8 years old in Timor!
They've got money and live like, well I don't know what.....filthy, litter all over their compound etc...
We were so polite, anything you can do please to stop that dog barking next to our house please, thank you......just stared at us like we were from outer space! Counted 8 dogs at the gate all barking at us.
As we walked back to ours my wife said 'they won't do a thing they don't care, just horrible people'
Thing is - my device works but only if you are there to fire it at the dog. I'm not getting up at 06:00 to do it or every other time it bloody barks.
Only leaves the option now of removing the dog. Shame but I can't see any other solution....sorry to all the dog lovers out there!
