Afternoon everyone,

I'm currently looking to launch a start-up in 18 months & as luck would have it, it's centred around airports.

Keeping in mind where alot of you are, more westerly than me that's for sure...Which airport do you, your friends, relatives, family tend to plump for?

I'm keeping details re it quite brief at the mo...But let's just say I'm sure you lot will rather like it smile

Well you've one vote and that's from me.

Flying to Edinburgh for the New Year celebrations. We'll be flying out of Southampton.

Flew to Australia earlier this year and that was from Heathrow. Previous holidays have quite often been out of Gatwick.

These are the main 3 I look for. Southampton - Gatwick and then Heathrow. I appreciate that Southampton is more short haul though.

Oh and I'm Petersfield based.

Is this for real?

'Where do you leave your car when you go on holiday?'.

Whats next?

'Where do you leave your keys when you go on holiday?'

Sorry to be a stick in the mud Ironic but i can only see this thread as a bad thing. Many of us as you well know are linked by Facepage so it wouldnt take much for a lurking TWOCer to find out when you were on your hols and then drive to your preferred airport to collect your car. My FB account was actually hacked on Friday by a guy from Dallas, Texas and i can assure you that from now on my content is going to be secure. Stay safe sportsfans!!

Saying what airport you, your friends, relatives and family tend to plump for doesn't mean that you;

A: Take your car to the airport,
B: Give out your home address,
C: Park on site at the airport,
D: Most use one of the many park and ride services for airport parking, so it could be anywhere.

Yeah, i agree with your point. But.....

A. Some do, especially the ones with 'practical' performance cars. Like the M5, RS6 or others of the luggage carrying design. How many do you see parked at the Airport car parks? Loads!!
B. Home address is easy to find. Reg number, Facebook pics, PH pics.......
C. Yeah, i agree that not everyone does. But many do.
D. True. But people do post about thier P&R recomendations.

I dont want to argue over it, i just think the question could have been worded better.

I can't answer, I've never been on a plane. I know quite a few people who use Bristol though.

I get the local bus (200 or 300) to Gatwick from my house.

Not sure if that helps though.

Agreed...If anyone feels iffy about posting up any details, you can just use the poll function only smile

The info will help regardless though, you can even PM me if you prefer because what I'm putting together will be a great little service for PH'ers yes

Next time there is a Mercedes World Sunday Service, go around the back to Brooklands museum, Pay the £11 to get into Brooklands, but an extra £4 will take your plane virginity away and you get to go on Concorde. Problem jobbed.

Granted, no flying will take place as such, but it's worth a shout!

Depends where we are going.

Europe I will always look to leave from Bournemouth as it's 5 min drive from my house or Southampton.

When I've been to the States or Mauritius then it's Heathrow.

School boy error, ambiguity in a PH post, never good wink

I've been in plenty of stationary aircraft, including Concorde and various other planes at Duxford and Yeovilton etc. I nearly went in AWACS, sadly the trip was cancelled, I went gliding but couldn't go in a glider because the wind changed direction or it became misty. Sigh.

Not really sure of the relevance of the question.

I fly from the airport that serves my destination, I can't choose the point of departure for 95% of flights. I'm flying intercontinental 3 times in the next few weeks. Each destination is only served from 1 UK airport, LHR. Not convenient but no choice.

Bournemouth for the odd city break if Ryanair are offering anywhere interesting, and then I would taxi it to the airport.

Heathrow or Gatwick for everything else, though preferably Heathrow, as Gatwick is always more hassle.

Some really interesting responses, thanks to everyone so far! Keep going to those who haven't contributed.

Surprised at the amount of people using Heathrow, a much bigger proportion than I expected! Makes me rethink things a little in how I do things...I was very much under the impression that Gatwick was THE hub for the SE, which going by the poll, alot of people would go with that idea...But Heathrow takes quite a large share surprisingly! scratchchin

Interesting regarding Bournemouth also, although when thinking about it, not unexpected! It's pretty bloody convenient for those short haul trips yes

Surely it's obvious where the most traffic goes through? Or is this a startup oriented around PH users only?

Even out in the west country, it's LHR/LGW for me unfortunately. Just isn't the choice of flight times even when routes are available from Cardiff/Bristol/etc. and I won't go to Birmingham for anything.

Local like Southampton is more limited to Europe. So that only really leaves Gatwick and Heathrow. For long haul, Heathrow seems to be the one with the most flights and you can basicly fly anywhere from it. Normally a case of wanting to fly out on certain dates, Heathrow will normally tick that box. Gatwick might do the flight, but not as often.

The reason for me is that 99.9% of my flying is on business & fairly frequent. Heathrow is further for me than Gatwick, but easier parking & slicker once there, also optional flights when/if it goes pear shaped. Stansted is very strange, with poor parking options, especially the chuffing long walk from short stay to the airport. London City is extraordinarily expensive for car parking & is a pig to get to from Kent.
I must admit I've started using Eurostar into France/Belgium & then SNCF/ICE train if going on further.

Flying from airports that do holiday flights is a complete PITA. Thousands of mongs who don't fly regularly & are seemingly incapable of reading a sign or notice, either before they fly on the website or in the airport. e.g. for several years it has been no liquids in carry-ons greater than 100ml & total 1L in a clear placky bag. Earlier this year posh couple & daughter of about 15 go through security & get pulled to one side. They have probably about 3l of lotions & potions in various bags. One of which is a probable 1l bottle of posh shampoo which goes in the bin. Cue dozy mother & daughter bursting into tears & about half a dozen of us pissing ourselves laughing!

Bournemouth every time if we can. Willing to pay a premium for the convenience. Otherwise next choice is Heathrow (use the National Express service) or Gatwick (take the car and use Gatwick Airport Parking - definately not one of those "off site" companies).
