That’s the attraction. The Fremont experience is hilarious with the nuns with their tits out and crack wes dancing to appalling live music, the $10 all you can eat lobster offerings (I’ve never been brave enough). It’s all terrible but it’s a great place to people watch. Go a street back and it’s really rough as fk, but then most of Vegas is, it might be covered in fairy lights but cultured and classy it ain’t and that its charm.

We only stayed for a night last time on our way through, fancied a steak at Vic and Anthony’s at the Golden Nugget so stayed the night there. My word that hotel is crap, cheap though!

There’s a couple of good places around Fremont for a drink. The laundry room for example.

Freemont st is great , real atmosphere and that old Vegas feel ? There was thousands of people there (2017) but felt very safe. Plenty police and security about also.

Where are you staying and for how long ?

It’s expensive but worth doing as much as you can and worry about the bills later :-0

Three days max for me. I don't find Vegas any good as a base to explore from as it's too remote from much else.

Stop off for a couple of days? Absolutely! Two weeks? Not for me.

I dunno 2 days death valley, red rock, valley of fire, Hoover dam, grand canyon, Mojave.

We are/should be doing 17 nights this time but only 1 night at start 4nights at the end the rest is driving into Utah then across to Navajo nation then back down 66 via grand canyon
It will be 6th time Longest we have done in Vegas not on a proper road trip is 10 nights and that was fine

Look further afield than the strip, such as Sam's Town on the Boulder strip, or the Cannery in North Las Vegas.
I watched the Cannery being built and it was a regular watering hole for us when we lived there, and it was far better than any of the strip hotel/casinos.
Mind you that was about 14 years ago, so things may have changed.

Our go to hotel is the carriage house. It isnt fancy and just off strip about 300m but free parking and no resort fee and decent sized rooms for a bargain price comparatively. But our fave hotel is most probably the vdara and then aria but they are actually more off strip than the carriage house!

Agreed.

My brother has gone multiple times for over a week and I just don't get the attraction. He's not even a big gambler. I think he just likes flash hotels, and cheap buffets!

We did 5 days and it was more than enough. I would only go for longer if it was to visit the canyon for a couple of days.

Can't say I would ever feel the need to go for more than 4 or 5 days - it's always been a work conference destination, although I've had a few short holiday visits over the years....

...but if you must: my top Vegas tips:
Segway tour to Boulder City on a quiet Sunday morning
Morning breakfast helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon
Shows: in order of awesomeness:
Cris Angel Mind Freak
Beetles Love
Blue Man Group

There's plenty of people who go on 2 week holidays to all-inclusive resorts elsewhere in the world and do nothing but sit by the pool for the whole time.

Also, it is a good destination for the British winter, get some guaranteed sunshine and pleasantly cool weather.

Embrace the glorious fake-ness and absurdity of the city, and then combine it with side trips out of town for a few days (maybe over the weekend when Vegas hotel rates are higher) - On my last 3 trips I've been out to Death Valley, the Grand Canyon (3 day trip hiking to the bottom and back) and down to Tucson to the massive air museum and aircraft boneyard.

Since I last went (December 2019) there are 2 new casinos, Circa and Resorts World, and it seems the Downtown and Arts District craft beer/independent bar scene is finally catching up to other American cities of similar size, so there is always plenty of new places to visit even for regular tourists.

Might have to go back sometime in 2022 biggrin

To be fair your comment about the pools is spot on. We were in Mandalay Bay and the pool area is like visiting a small water park.

It also has it own shark aquarium.

Nah fremont is fun, in a gritty way.
I used to like to do one trip to the strip Bellagio or more lately Aria, then a second trip to Downtown in Plaza or Golden Nugget or D's.
Those downtown hotels are not the same level as Aria/ Venetian/ Wynn, but IMHO are much better value than the second tier Strip hotels, like MGM or Luxor etc and offer similar service/ rooms.

My top Vegas Tip, DO NOT have a bottomless cocktail breakfast/ brunch then go directly to play Blackjack, ;P it ends badly.
