Is it me or do all these recommended places to stop put the UK to shame?

Stop between Dover and London.....what will you get, a few Premier Inns, a Pub with a hotel upstairs with sticky carpets.
I think there are places, but probably known to locals, very rarely on or near to the main roads (M2/M20).
There is this, very good but it is pricy. If I was travelling the 28 miles between Dijon and Beaune in Burgundy, I would have so many places to choose from.

Looks nice.

I'd put that in the high end bracket for accommodation/hotel, French standards provide that sort of food for half the price.
