I think it was about a mile off Djibouti. Memory a bit vague but that sort of area.

Filthy place. And it comes with a story I dare never tell! wink

Anyway moving on, whose go is it now?

To paraphrase the late great Eric Morecambe, I think I had the correct location, just not for the right photograph laugh

Someone's got to lead off, so let's have a bash.

USA?
California?
Mendocino?

Brilliant! I equivocated between the two (US & Oz), and got it comprehensively wrong, seemingly paperbag - and I did squint at the top of the plate and still couldn't read it!

Western Australia is right, not broom though.
Will accept nearest big town as it is a little small and remote. Area was in the news about a year ago though.

Likewise - seems to sum up our adventure over there in 90 minutes (one dead, many wounded, much time and energy wasted, no result). By contrast google the bloke what helped build that hydro scheme - he took a cine camera for travels through the country, and shows a basic place but seemingly peaceful (Miller Knudsen was the company iirc).

Apols for thread derailment.

It is actually Hopetoun, but Esperance is nearest large town.
In the news as the trips offshore to see a pod of killer whales.

Keeping on the watery theme this should be easy for the well travelled;
