Koh Lipe is nice and by Thai standards relatively unspoilt.

OK my other recomendation would be

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g1210687-d...

If in Kata, do make sure you vist the SKA Bar on the beach, at the bottom of the rocks, south end of teh bay, its the hangout for us yachties in the Kings Cup Regatta and any other time we are in town, fantastic cocktails as the tide comes in and the entertainment of watching the longtail operators working!!

Just out of curiosity, what sort of line of work are you in to have a job in Bangkok? Its unusual for farangs to find decent work in Thailand as I understand it!

Department head Senior Dolphin Shaver for a British IT Company.

Plenty of farang here, and some even in proper jobs rather than TEFL, you just need to be here a while to find the jobs, or get transferred in. A large chunk of my working life is in SE Asia these days.

depends on who good you are at guarding your credit cards from the missus, Central World and Platinum Mall are less than 500 meters in the other direction ... If she does get on your nerve however, can always get a new Girlfriend in Nana or Cowboy, equally close, and a lot cheaper than SWMBO's shopping trip wink

Joking aside, good central location, easy to get to the relavent temples and pallaces and other touristy bits without sluming it. If going to temples, remind the missus to bring a sarong or something to cover up her legs before going in ..... otherwise she will have to queue up to rent one.

Edit - for your Chang Mai hotel, you are about 1 minutes walk from IMHO) the best restaurant in Chang Mai, Dash (also teh name of teh owner) Thoroughly recomend it ....

If i remember right, turn right out of outel, keep right and its on teh right, as simple as that, modern remage of his mothers old Thai home with courtyard and fantastic Nortehrn Thai food!!!

Thanks for the reply. Can you recommend anything worth seeing / doing?
Also, any restaurants close by that are worth a visit?

What happened on SWMBO's shopping trip? :-)

I work here so always forget teh tourist things, but standard Guidebook stuff for bangers as only here a few days.

Any street food place thats busy will have good grub, also teh food court in Central World is quite an experience if you are not familiar with Asia.

Will have a think about good thai restaurants to try, also SkyBar is a must ....

Well, she spent too much so i traded her in .... hehe
