Looks like west coast to me - Krabi province, maybe up towards Phang Nga Bay (except obviously not exactly there as you said less-travelled part).

It is indeed on Thailand's west coast and manages to account for a whole 3 lines in the Lonely Planet guide; however it's not to the north of Krabi. If no-one gets it by the morning I'll reveal all...
