Yes, turn away from the sea at La Terjita and you can see the airport biggrin

I'd go for a paddle if I'd arrived early to pick up friends from the airport smile

Be a real shame to spoil it.

There was council approval for a 200 room hotel at Las Teresitas in January but it was met with immediate protests for what is a place of natural beauty and, limited access.

Apols if there is another hotel development elsewhere but I didn't see a demonstration against that one, there might well be other demonstrations !

Well the forecast for Lanzarote looked pretty crappy for this week but from midday onwards it’s been nothing but glorious sunshine so far. Wish we’d booked a fortnight biggrin

it's alright, it depends on your age range. its price reflects it's quality.

beware some of the restaurants in the harbour they are a borderline legal tourist trap. do your research.

I prefer arginaguine but you can get the water bus easy enough from Mogan.

want a pulse? taxi direct to cafe del mar or mapalomas.

want to party till 3? taxi straight to mapalomas commercial centre.

Thanks Carl, comments noted. The place came recommended so we thought we'd give it a go for a week.

Our partying days are long gone. These days I'm more concerned about the quality of the cocoa.

In the over 55 age range I think at least one taxi ride to catch the post tea rock act at the Mapalomas Lopesan is worth while. You don't need to book and the stage is open air. It's a very pleasant place to visit. It cost millions to refurb. You can order drinks whilst seated, even cocoa.

Theres a mountain road opposite the hotel which is closed due to a landslide. If you're into running or walking its brilliant as has great views and zero traffic.

By coincidence I have received an email saying that the new 4-star H10 Costa Mogan hotel is ready and bookings are now open. The junior suite sea view room looks tasty.

We have been before and stayed across the road probably 5 times. Food is ok, rooms are good for the price point.

There is a boat trip from the harbour that stops off at a few resorts along the coast, buses are cheap but can get really busy.

Market day is Friday and early on it will be extremely busy, most stalls sell genuine fakes.

I'd recommend Meloneras as a place to visit, some nice bars and restaurants. We stayed just outside Maspalomas in January and it's a little rough and I wouldn't recommend.

It's about as far from the airport as you can get so I 100% recommend getting a private transfer if you are going on a package tour.

We've stayed across the road at Cordial Mogan Valle the last two summers (and we were very close to booking a third for 2024 but opted for Tenerife this year instead).

Advice mirrors that above - do a bit of research on restaurants. I'd recommend Samaras which is on the path towards the harbour rather than on the harbour itself.

If you want traditional Canarian tapas, a short drive or bus ride north to Mogan town and you can visit Canario de Oro. Some tasty food and usually feeding locals, which is always a good sign - we usually visit at least twice in a fortnight trip.

I'd recommend to anyone visiting Gran Canaria a trip up to Las Palmas and the Poema del Mar aquarium - a bit of a trek but impressive and we easily spent 3-4 hours. We went on the hottest day of the trip as a bit of respite from the heat.

Was looking at maybe going to Rhodes or Kefalonia in September but now looking at different Canary Islands as money seems to go further. Bit of a minefield deciding not only which island to go to but where on the islands to stay. So far considering either Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura or Lanzarote probably.

We've found the Canaries offer good value at the height of the British summer. I guess because of variety, Canaries are seen as more of a winter/spring destination?

Anyhow most recent experience is Fuerteventura, 4 times in 3 years. Mostly as it's low key and good for families, our kids love the beach and it has that over Tenerife and Lanzarote. It's relatively flat, it's mostly a volcanic moonscape but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
