Mrs C reminded me that we stayed in this place for a friend's wedding last year - again, not your ordinary B&B!!

Gidleigh Park food wise is a cut above everything mentioned IMHO. Couple of the rooms have jacuzzi and sauna in the room, stayed 20 or so times in the last two years. If you have the money sure they could draft someone in for a treatment in your room.
Bath Priory food is very good and Bath has plenty to do how ever some of the rooms are lacking.
Bovey is a great destination property, food is good but no way comparable to the above.

From the website it appears they may be trying a bit hard on the art deco style.
Fine line between stylish/kitsch/tasteless - velour bedspreads!
It is lovely in there but stylish 'vs' kitsch will depend on you liking Art Deco. As a petrol head how can you resist the chance to ride on the sea tractor? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBbJtkBVOi4Fine line between stylish/kitsch/tasteless - velour bedspreads!
Sea tractor looks fun!

Thanks for confirming my thoughts. I think I'm prepared to drop a star on the food in order to get a proper pool. OH can't use Jacuzzi or sauna as pregnant.
Will go for Lansdown suite in the newer building as has come recommended.
What has pretty much sealed it for me was the conversation I had with the staff today which was in stark contrast to some of the others I've spoken to - nothing was too much trouble they were bright and engaging, also happy to tailor their packages to our specific needs.
Service means so much for special occasions.

Looks like Lucknam Park is out as main restaurant is shut Sun & Mon which would be two of three nights - shame, looks nice.
(They also haven't answered their phone in two days so meh to that)
I'm surprised at that - I've stayed there a few times and their customer service has always been excellent.(They also haven't answered their phone in two days so meh to that)
Their other restaurant, the Brasserie, does some lovely food as well and is open every night (well, it was when we were there last).

St Enodoc and Saunton Sands are both very pleasant but can be a PITA to get to in the summer months.
St Enodoc again on the short list but food receives mixed reviews and not sure accomodation quite special enough compared to some mentioned here.Lovely area though, love Daymer Bay.
