Holden Ute hire - v8 natch
Discussion
I can't find any online which is a pity as they are good things!
There is this place but they are not cheap and no utes I can find. http://www.supercarrentals.com.au/
A Caprice is the same size but maybe a bit softer...a few of the hire companies have them in V8.
The best cheaper option would be a Falcon XR6 or Commodore SV6, not a V8 but still ok for that road. Make sure it is at least semi sport! ie not a Falcon XT or Commodore Omega.
Some of the good roads down there, I have been told, are away from the Great Ocean Road, up through some of the hills behind.

Somewhere in Sydney there is a multi-story carpark where all the backpackers/travellers buy and sell their cars and vans. Best to ask at a backpackers pub or hostel to find it. Much cheaper to buy rather than rent one. I bought my bike within 15 minutes of being in Oz, sold it the day I left for the same money. Win-win.
Fancy stuff but no Holdens or Fords.
