Anyone renewed their passport recently? How long is it taking at the moment?

Renewed 2 in the last 6 weeks or so (one 2 weeks ago). One week each time.

Renewed mine online and got the preprinted forms a few days later. Signed and sent them back with photos in the normal post two weeks ago, no checking at the post office, special delivery postage or anything and got the new one in my hands within the week.

The only thing that would improve the process would be just letting me print the form after I do the online completion - I really don't see what the government gains by insisting on printing at their end and posting to me?

The boy whose passport we're renewing is 17, so a new photo will be required, presume this means going down a different route that will take more than a week? Just wondering whether to bite the bullet and make a personal visit to Newport.

A new photo is always requied, but where a child has changed looks considerably (which is probable) then you need to have one of the photos (and one of the form sections) filled in by a responsible citizen who has known them for a few years. Luckily one of our neighbours is a chartered accountant!

Process takes the same amount of time.
