Hi,

Looking to take the motorhome to London in October half term, but finding it quite difficult to find any decent campsites, with decent tube/train links to the city (maybe up to an half to forty five mins away).

(Crystal Palace site is full apparently)

Any recommendations?

Can't pinpoint a specific site but I'd look round Amersham way (end of the Met line)

Check out the ones at Lea Valley, or Amerden Caravan & Camping Park (Maidenhead), or my favourite - Town Farm Camping between Tring and Dunstable - beautiful views smile Not walking distance to a train station (unless you fancy an hours walk over the hills), but only 5 minutes drive, and 40 mins or so on the train to Euston.

And just found http://www.northhillcamping.co.uk/ which is close to Chorleywood (Met line - same line as Amersham)

If you're looking for a camp site this website is probably a very good place to start:

The above is in Seer Green, Bucks, train station in the village runs into Marylebone.

Never been there but live nearby and looks ok

Chertsey

Had some Canadian friends come over earlier this year. They hired a camper van and stayed at this site a few nights. They liked it and caught the train into London a couple of times, about 30 minutes each way.

How about this place.
Just down from Champneys and literally 5 minutes walk from a mainline station which takes you directly into Kings Cross (about 30 minutes).

Hop Farm isn't very far from London (about an hours drive) and is close to the M25, quite a large campsite and they segregate older people, families and young people etc... So noise isn't that much of a problem

Does anyone else imagine the owners will be elderly German's and expect there to be watchtowers from that description..?

Not sure if Henley is a bit far, but I've stayed here before and it's great!

There was a nice camp site on the steps of St Paul's cathedral, can't get much more central than that. Unfortunately it's now been dismantled.

You can stay quite a way out of London and get into town quickly....Chelmsford is 30 mins to Liverpool St as an example.

There's a camp site at Debden in Essex which is on the end of the Central Line....the campsite borders Epping Forest. It's a solid 20 or 30 min walk to the tube though and then 45 mins into London.

We've booked one at Lea Valley in the end. Bus from there to tube station. Should be in town within 60 mins (hopefully)

I thought the same when I saw the thread.

Slightly more seriously, some outlaws if mine stayed in a Yoof Hostel near St Paul's - worth a thought?
