Far East at Christmas.....

We have done Thailand and did Cambodia earlier this year but want to get away for Christmas but can't decide on a destination.

I was out voted so Lapland it is but that ice festival is now at the top of list for next time.

Those would have been my top-2 out there.

Also been to:-
- Vietnam. Interesting, but the northerners aren't as welcoming as the Thais/Khmer (nowhere near so), and the beaches aren't as good as Thailand.
- Borneo. Worthwhile if you're into wildlife and/or diving.
- Bali. South is touristy. Ubud in the highlands is a lovely place to get away and relax. Lombok next door might be interesting.
- Japan. Not for Xmas - will be too cold.

...so maybe consider mainland Malaysia, or what about NZ/Australia? Probably left it too late to get decent flights though for this Xmas...
