Just after peoples opinions on whats the best way to access my money abroad in Thailand and Dubai.

Travel money cards - which ones are best?
Travelers cheques - how easy will these be able to change up

I will obviously have my bank card but that will charge me every time I take cash out, I would also like to spread the risk in case anything gets stolen/lost. I will have access to the internet to transfer money across accounts if that helps.
I'm looking to take around £800 if that makes any difference.
Credit card is out of the question since my current bank won't offer me one as I have never had any debt or credit with them (yet they offer me a loan and mortgage which I find crazy)

Thanks

It is worth having a look at a Halifax Clarity credit card for use abroad ONLY. They have minimal charges for cash withdrawals at ATMs and they don't charge you if you pay with your card.

I am with Halifax and tried this - Computer said no due to above reasons.

I've just been travelling with a couple who were using prepaid credit cards. I think they split their money across two each. I'll definitely be doing this next time. I think you can even top them up if you need to online.

Seems like a very low risk way of working.

I have had one for years. Cannot fault it, although I am not 100% sure on current rates.

Take Travellers Cheques

it was something like 33 baht per cheque to change so was dirt cheap. there are banks everywhere in thailand unless your going to some remote village. Just be aware that most if not all banks shut on a sunday so make sure you check the opening times first so you dont become stuck like I did in Bangkok thinking that I could exchange money 24 hours!

When wifey and I went to Thailand last year we mainly took travelers cheques. There is a small fee to change them, but this is more than ofset by the fact the exchange rate out there is always slightly better than back home.
We didnt have problems finding somewhere to change our money anywhere but saying that, we did mainly stick to tourist destinations - Bangkok, Samui, Patong, Ao Nang.

I used one of these when I went traveling a few years ago and would definitely recommend it. I just transfered 250 quid a time onto it from my bank account online, that way if it got nicked / scanned then they wouldn't have access to all of my funds.

I used it all over the world without any problems or charges, the only thing I'm not too sure of is if they screw you on exchange rate....? Either way, I reckon it saved me a fair bit over the course of a year not having to pay for cash withdrawals anywhere.
