Was looking into using a prepaid card but heard from a friend that they had issues using them in a lot of places.

Did a search online and lots of sites recommend opening an account with Metro Bank who don't have any charges to use your card abroad (like Nationwise used to have), however I am unsure if I could just open an account for this purpose (i.e. not switch my salary and d/d etc over).

Any thoughts?

I use the fair fx usd and eur pre paid cards for Europe and the States. Never had any issue with them and can't see why you would because they are just like a debit or credit card.

I think some prepaid cards don't have your name on, possibly the Thomas cook one doesn't and as such could cause issues as I I ow in the states I had to show I.d when using mine and I guess they checked the names off.

Just looked that up, looks great for states and Europe but I will be going to Australia and Dubai, should have mentioned that.
