As someone who normally selects the cheapest available, clean-ish, hovel to stay in I'm entirely hopeless at finding nice hotels. Next month I need to book an impressive nights accommodation for a special evening away so I need recommendations for a quality hotel. Other than being within about a hours drive of Birmingham there aren't any requirements and even this is flexible.

Basically somewhere where you were totally wowed by how nice the rooms were is what I'm looking for.

Lots of great ideas- cheers guys. I'm loving that Crazy Bear place, even though it's a bit further away.

Cliveden House Hotel.
Or my fave at the moment, The Crazy Bear at Beaconsfield.
Agree with both of these, stunning places. I stayed in the "silver" suite at Beaconsfield and it was awesome, bit pricey but food was great!

How about Coombe Abbey?

Have to go for a feature room though.
That looks good too. I clicked on the rates expecting them to be eye wateringly expensive but they're not too bad, relatively speaking.
