I help manage a pub pool league and am one of the members of t'committee.

I've been told by a licensee that on Monday night after a game a player then proceeded to roll a "medicinal" cigarette on the bar, involving the burning and crumbling of a substance into said rollup. This player has admitted this and is now banned from that venue. However I'm undecided as to whether to

a) Recommend banning this player for the rest of the season and bringing it up at the AGM if he should be let back in
or
b) Be lenient and let him off with a warning?

I'm leaning towards the first option but don't want to over-react. I reckon he's brought the team and the league into disrepute by his actions.

So, faced with this dilemma, I ask myself - what would Pistonheads do?

Have you considered sending him an email?

Seriously though, as much as I disagree with drugs/smoking/smoking drugs, it's not like he's murdered anyone. Have a word with him, and tell him if it happens again he's gone. Then get him to draft up a letter of apology to the committee and members, as well as the venue in question.

Even-handed approach? Here? Steady on!!

Bit strange isn't it suddenly deciding to whack it on the bar and roll one up - not a normal thing to do by any means given it is illegal (whether we agree or not) - unless there was more to the situation than met the eye.

Nuke him form orbit, with a can of rec bull, its the only way to be sure.

Seriously, i would suggest that he has brought the league and the game into disrepute, and any sentence issued, should reflect this fact

Tell him to stop being a knob, and that he'll be kicked if it happens again.

Perhaps he was already under the influence of the landlords own intoxicating substances?

This.

It's not like he's embarassed your team on national TV. It's a pool league.

Explain to the said cretin why what he did was bad.

Explain how he won't get a second warning.

rofl I very much doubt a spliff would enhance his game. It might make him fall asleep if he's playing someone like Terry Griffiths.

Depends if he is any good on not.

If he is your best player, then let him off

If he is rubbish and never scores any points for you - then ban him

The OP didn't say he consumed it just that he rolled it. Because smoking in a bar is not allowed.

Brought a pool league into disrepute?

Amusing.

You will as always get split opinion on this - some will not think of a joint as particularily harmful whilst others will clearely have an issue with it.

Whilst I dont really mind people smoking the stuff what would worry me is why he thought it was good idea to do it in public. Shows a lack of judgement or very relaxed attitude towards it - I would have a chat and see how he reacts initially then take it from there personally.

Make him write a letter of apology to the licensee and make him buy the first round. Why stir things up any more over a cheeky doobie?
