Sorry to hear this OP

If its as prolific as the police have said and they cant be arsed to do anything about it, then may I suggest a good newspaper expose detailing the frequency of the crimes and the lack of any concern from the authorities? If they start getting negative media coverage then they might think twice about being so laissez-faire.....

I'm genuinely proud to be a part of the PH community after reading this thread. Well done chaps thumbup

Sorry to hear about the event though OP. I hope your daughter forgets it.
My sentiments exactly, whatnow, that is a truly stunning gesture and I'm humbled just reading it. In fact, I'm inspired, it makes me want to try and give something to the community we have on here - not the first time I've heard of PH as a whole, or just one person via it, doing extraordinary things for people who could use a good turn.

OP, I think you've handled this brilliantly - how you can be in a decent mood is beyond me, and if I were you I'd be extremely proud of getting a good punch in too. When something like that happens you can often end up wondering "what if I'd done this/that", but you did everything possible!

All I can really add is that the size of the absolute pit-of-hell stbomb of karma to be dumped on the fkers who robbed you is matched only by the masses of glowing goodwill in here. Top work to you and everyone posting.

We're just waiting for a friend of ours to get onto our PC at home to retrieve our flight details after which we'll call BMI to ask them if there's any way of doing the same - If it can save us 500 Euros then that's got to be worth a shot - We spoke to someone in Malaga airport who said that around 3 months ago that would've been possible just to fly based on the police report, but she seemed to think they'd got tighter on this recently. Will try anyway, thanks for the advice.
Good luck - our incident was in 2010, so a few years ago.

My financee did have to stay an extra day in Ibiza (not exactly a hardship) as she is from NZ and travelling on an NZ passport. The rest of us were on UK or Irish passports and it just wasn't an issue. Initially the powers that be wanted her to travel to Madrid to get a new passport but after a few phone-calls pointing out that she had lived in UK for 12 years, owned a hone here etc.. they relented and let her travel on a piece of faxed documentation and police report.

As I say; good luck getting home - hope it all goes smoothly for you and family.

Park one car, and have a gormless looking couple mill about, rummaging through luggage etc.

Have a van parked just opposite, full of double hard bds.

The trap is set biggrin

Well, quite frankly I am fking disgusted.

Having waited since early August for settlement on our travel insurance claim to try and recoup some of the loss we suffered, I got a cheque in the post this morning from the travel insurance company for £126. !! 126 fking quid!!

They've come to some decision that we'd left our bags unattended (my wife was stood with them FFS), so have said they won't pay out. However, they have paid out for one of the actual bags, our sunglasses, and my wife's normal glasses (with 90% depreciation!), which were all inside said bag. So how can they say that one hand we're not covered, yet then still pay us for the actual bag and a couple of the cheaper items inside? s. Surely they should either pay out or not!? What about my wallet/wife's purse/ipod/ipad/camera/tomtom etc?! Have scoured the T&Cs and can't find any other relevant get out clauses. As for the 496 Euros spent getting emergency passports, they won't pay out on those either. Not to mention the £72.50 each to replace them when we got home.

We were 100% honest in our claim and got fk all - Maybe I should have lied and said we were sitting on top of the bags when they get stolen.

So all in all, what a fking st end to a fking st holiday.

Typical of Insurance companies? I will let the knowledgeable comment.

What about the Insurance Ombudsmen, would they be able to assist in any way?

Exactly my experience when I needed to call on my TI back in 2009. Lost £3500 to thieves in Ibiza and the TI used obscure T&Cs to avoid paying out. I was disgusted.

Typical of cheap and cheerful insurance policies certainly. I'm not convinced most of the policies I've ever taken out would have covered all of the costs of the situation described, but I'm usually more concerned about the medical side than loss of property.

Efa,

I hope you sort it OP, always worth a call to the daily wail so they can inform the travelling public that standing with your bag is classed as unattended with "xyz insurance"

Spain is the absolute pits.... And I can say hand on heart, me and none of my family will ever go back again...

Next door neighbour, robbed within hours of landing in Barcelona....
My sister robbed within minutes of landing in Valencia

A good friend... Robbed at the side of the road in his camper van...

We'd actually booked a 3 month stay at Benicassim, for the winter in our motorhome..... The wife has cancelled it and won't return...... We were going to meet up with some friends, they too have cancelled...

Me neither. In fact I've been put off travelling anywhere to be perfectly honest (having also once been mugged in Marseille by a little prick pretending he wanted a cigarette ). What's worse is my daughter still brings up the subject and absolutely sts herself whenever we have to go in underground car parks. The s that did this should come to a painful fking demise.

You need to have your wits around you....

We were there from Jant to March this year.... Got hassled by beggars all the timefrown

As for my sister, she went to her hotel room, put her stuff away and went to the bar for a drink.....got to the bar and remembered she'd left her phone in the room...went back up to find the door kicked in, and all her stuff gone...rolleyes
Luckily she got her passport and purse in her bag..... But all clothes, glasses, iPod etc gone...
Hotel staff not interested... (Probably in on it) letting thieves know when new arrivals check in..
Police not interested.....

Just a slightly different slant. a few years back i was in marmaris and was pick pocketed in a bar. at the last moment i felt it but the guy was like roadrunner with my wallet, i chased him but had no chance. the bar owner saw what went on and asked me to call back the following day. we went back i was not expecting anything. turned out the little st was known to the bar owners as the son of the bar a few streets down. well my wallet was waiting back in the bar for me with everything still in it. i was so greatfull . the bar owner said he was disgusted that locals should treat folk who were bringing in tourist money to them and they like to look after the clientèle. apparently the guy got a real kicking from his father who owned the other bar and when he was brought back to the bar i had been in he got leathered by the bar owner there with full blessing of the the father. also as an apology we got free drinks all week in the sts fathers bar and the owner of the bar my wallet was nicked in took us for the most amazing steaks at his brothers restaurant. he told me "we police our own and will not stand for this as it makes the turks look bad and if word gets out no one would drink there any more". to say i felt looked after and grateful was an understatement. also found out the pick pocketers uncle was the chief of police in marmaris and had put in a police complaint. his uncle apparently bh slapped him and locked him up for 5 days as a punishment.... there are some diamond folks abroad

We've always felt pretty safe in Rural France..... But the big city's are like anywhere else I suppose.... We always keep vigilant, and lock our doors etc.... Having dogs in the van helps a bit I think..... What happened to you and your family is bloody awful..... And as for the insurance company....don't let em get away with it....

Don't give up on the insurance front.
As an example. We where burgled January this year. Resulted in epic ball ache and the bank that 'gives you extra' doing far from it. Pretty much everything they paid out for was discounted for 'wear & tear' and refused to pay out on other items. Refused to do anything about the discounted bits etc.

1 strongly worded letter sent to head honcho of said bank. 1 cheque for just shy of £4k.

From what you have said I would say you have a strong case to go to the FSA. You have to give your insurance a chance to solve the issue before the FSA get involved. Mention that point to them. As if they do get involved it will cost the insurer £400 to just to recieve a letter from the FSA.
