Met Tom Hanks and his wife in a restaurant on Kings Road. The man is a legend. So giving with his time and super humble.
It's great to hear that, he always seems like a decent guy in interviews and what a great actor he is.I suppose he is known for it.

She stayed seated, but almost bit clear through her bottom lip with frustration.

Ok. I've never heard of her. I said to her, “One false move and I’m outta here, and you can pick up the check.”

I was out last night for a meal in Edinburgh and Graham Norton was sat at the next table in close proximity to us; having worked in the restaurant industry in the past I found the way people deal with waiting staff is generally a good indication as to whether they are decent or not; on last night's evidence Graham Norton is a thoroughly decent chap - he was exceedingly polite to the servers, and even the assistant manager who insisted on interrupting him for a handshake (my wife works for the company that owns the restaurant so she was slightly cringing at this point).

He’s all class. He attended the Reebok gym Canary Wharf. No one bothered him. My wife’s a big fan. You’d see him in Waitrose shopping with his Mum. He’d always speak to people. Pretty sure he still lives in Narrow Street. Sir IAN McKellen too. They’d frequent the pubs along the river. Burwood said:

Ian mckelken’s boozer is there. I’ve seen him sat by the bar reading a paper several times. He keeps himself to himself, but really doesn’t mind if he gets spotted. The Mad Monk said:

Saffron Sprackling from Republica (had hits in the 90s and still play live quite a bit). Met her through friends more than once and she remembered who we were and was chatty on the 2nd and subsequent occasions. Very good at talking to people. Their keyboard player Tim Dorney is a good guy too - met him for the 1st time before 1 of their gigs, again through mutual friends. He heard it was my birthday and told me he was putting me and my wife on the guest list without a 2nd thought. He subsequently offered me one of his keyboard mixers at a later date and then wouldn't accept payment for it when he handed it over.
Just started reading this post and Ready to go starts playing on the radio Sat on table nxet to Craig Charles and his family on the ferry to Ireland last year. He had a couple of bottles of wine but was on his hols, looked contented and was happy to oblige the selfie brigade. Gave me a pat on the back for some reason when we were disembarking, probably for not bothering him.
Alex Higgins did some very heavy drinking and subsequent puking in a pub I was working in in Derby in the 80s during a tournament. Unpleasent, aggressive, troubled, no surprises.

I’m more than a little surprised that you don’t know of Kirstie Alley, maybe it’s a generational thing.
She played Rebecca in “Cheers”, opposite Ted Danson, as the bar owner, Sam Malone, in the late 80s, early 90s, it was virtually mandatory to watch it back then.
Very attractive woman, she fought a constant battle with her weight.

Saw Michael Portillo filming his railway series in Devon a few weeks ago.
I didn't bother him (though I was a big fan of him and Alan Johnson on This Week) but a lot did and I have to say he handled it with a lot of grace and patience. Took an age to get a couple of shots due to the old dears asking for selfies and getting in the way but he smiled and chatted to them all.
He's a really warm and charming guy. He came over to a table full of drunk northerners after we had won a manufacturing award and were in particularly good spirits. Must have been intimidating for him but he was lovely. Had some really funny stories and a great wit.I didn't bother him (though I was a big fan of him and Alan Johnson on This Week) but a lot did and I have to say he handled it with a lot of grace and patience. Met him when he was filming in York. Absolutely charming. TV and history suits him much better than politics.
Actually, fair’s fair, although he acquired a rather abrasive public persona, I recall him as a senior minister in a government department I worked in when a very junior official. He was always pleasant and courteous on the occasions that I had to brief him or discuss a submission I had written. His private office really liked him (the people who spent 14-16 hours a day in his company day in day out) .
