My son built his first 'den' today. It consisted of 3 chairs, a blanket on top for the roof and another blanket as the front door.

I'm so proud...biggrin

The fan belt went I just posted in the "three words to describe your day" thread do not adequately convey the complex chain of events this simple event has engendered.

Still, with the battery light on and no power steering, the car got me home, bless it. I'll have a nice cup of tea and wait for daylight, Halfords and a spell of cold car fixermacation. And being spectacularly late at the beginning of my second wek at the new job, of course.

It's a tough journey by public transport, I've paid in advance for a week's B&B and, but for it being stuck in first gear, I'd take the Countess's car. It's a long way to... well, anywhere actually... in first gear.

Still, mustn't grumble. Worse things happen at sea.

Yeah, what's the NSX like in ice and snow? hehe

It's got to the point where I can just about break even (with the repair bills so far) if I sell it as parts. The latest thing is that fault codes are coming up telling us that all of the engine sensors are sending back too much voltage. This means either the loom is shorting somewhere or (more likely) the ECU has died and is sending the wrong voltage to start with and is acting surprised when it gets a dodgy signal back. This is putting the car in permenant "limp home" mode and is not letting the turbo boost. It has stopped letting us erase the codes now too.

I am sick to death of the car. I am going to take it into a Mazda dealer to get them to plug in their diagnostics machine. If the fix is going to cost over £250 I'm not prepared to do it. I just can't pour more money into a car which is worth nothing, which I'm not going to trust and which I will have to run for ever and a day to get my money back from. I would prefer to cut my losses and learn some valuable lessons from the experience.

(I'm sorry to Dicky about ignoring his advice.)

You have just put up a very strong case for ignoring it smile

Heard any horror stories about 54 plate 1.9 diesel Saabs, in mettalic red, in the PH classifieds, in leicester?

Or just diesel 9-3s in general? I've tried honest John, and that site comes up with a couple of (seemingly) isolated occurences(sp). Nothing like the 3 volumes of issues surrounding diesel Mazda 6s. hehe

What? Seriously.. The most problems we've had with the 6 Diesels is Diesel Pump, Turbo or Engine.. Usually that sorts it.

Engine is replaced. Same sensors that came out are plugged back in. The loom hasn't been picked apart. The engine dieing was purely mechanical, it had nothing to do with the electrics. So why is every ancillary on the lower branch of the loom showing up as a fault. It isn't a crap earth for two reasons. 1. The earth strap is clean, as is the body where it attaches. 2. The fault codes are reading too much voltage. It would be under reading if it was an earth fault. That leaves a loom problem or an ecu issue. I can't think what would have caused the loom to die. Can I give you a ring in a bit?

It's the same engine in the Vauxhall/Alfa cars and has a few quirks. The EGR valve tends to get clogged up, but is an easy 1hr job to clean it up and put it back. Or £100 for a new one.

The 150bhp engine can be remapped to ~190bhp. yes I've not successfully convinced Mrs A to remap her GT yet though.
