Sussex hit bad http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-285205...
Looking at the radar, those storms just bubbled up and stayed in one position. That's going to wallop anything under it!MetOffice video shows why the storms were so bad in a limited area - they bubbled up and never moved!

Huh? Now in my amateur eyes, the jet-stream is the last thing we ever want. Either it brings warm wet weather in winter or cooler wet weather in summer. It always brings wind Continental high pressure is what we want! When do we want it? NOW!
PS risk of thunder in most parts of UK today, away from far SE and NE

How's London / SE looking next week Pugs? From what I can tell it's not clear cut, so expecting a bit of a mixed bag!?
Mixed bag is about right - warming up to mid 20s again is likely, but the Atlantic will be effecting most of the UK, so can't discount wetter/cooler periods. Looking at next week's weather - the South is going to get another warm plume coming up from the Continent - effects should be felt Thursday through to Saturday. Could be heading back towards 30oC.
However...
Charts are showing the Atlantic is still in charge and we could be back below 20oC and extremely wet within 48 hours. Low pressure systems dominate between Iceland and Scotland, lots of wet weather, especially for the northern parts of west coast.
Still looking hopeful for 2nd half of August, but that's an awfully long way off.

Headsup - too early to be certain, but Hurricane Bertha is currently on track to miss any land in N America, and then boomerang back to our side of the Atlantic. Next weekend could be decidedly awful.
Of course, it will just be a depression when it reaches us, but it could bring an awful lot of wind, rain and storms.
Guess who's on a cross channel ferry on Sunday night?
Bullseye!

Er, I am! Should I be worried?
If you're on the Portsmouth-Caen overnight then yes - my kids are unruly The charts don't have a clue how to handle this, widely varying outcomes, but the most common appears to be good news - although we'll still get wet weather associated with an Atlantic low, it seems that it will have mostly blown itself out before it reaches us. Current most likely trajectory is down the Channel between England/France.

Aww I was hoping to empty the shed and give it a good tidy up on saturday, will have to stay inside drinking beer instead.
It's a very grey day in Marlow atm, had a few heavy burts of rain this morning but it's still warm!

Me and a pal are on a Monday afternoon Dover-Calais crossing in a pair of ridiculous old German cars. Am hoping all this st will have gone by then and we'll have a dry run down to the Hotel de France.
Benjj - our house is 5 mins from the Hotel de France (assuming you mean La Chartre sur le Loir). We should pop over for a 1664!Assuming our ferry doesn't sink on Sunday night!
