Your local council approved tip/recycle centre/dump will take them. They normally have a little area to one side of the main bins for such things. Find a grumpy bloke in a hi-vis to point it out.
Thank you...I didn't think they'd take batteries.They're not grumpy though - always smiley and helpful to the point of lifting stuff out of the car.
I'd love to have a victim handy, but sadly going on past experience they would be the type to sleep through heat/nuclear war/anything and thus wouldn't be much good to me in this situation anyway.
