RE: Apple I've no doubt their warranties are global, I'd be more interested to know if they're transferrable between users - lots of warranties are limited to original owner.
As for pricing whilst US prices sometimes look really good on-line (I once worked out it was cheaper to buy a cheap flight to New York, buy a Mountain Bike I wanted and fly back with it) by the time you add on local and federal taxes (rarely included in published prices in the US) import duty and VAT it's usually the same or slightly more than here.

warrenty should be okay
i had a ipod fail that i bought in the u.s , it was after the 12 months but they seemed to suggest if it had been bought here i would have got it repaired under some uk law , i think the one that gets spouted about that although it had a 12 warrenty it should last a good few years , but because it bought in the u.s that law didnt cover me
you may get stung alot on taxes if customs opens it , they will know its worth more than 1$ , could consider sending the box and phone seperate and mark it used too

How do those Mormon lads, you know the smart young men you see in town on the weekends, get their places allocated?
Do they all sit in a big hall in Salt Lake City with a boss Mormon and his clipboard -
"Alan, Jeff, David - You've got Barnstaple, Pete and the two Chucks, unlucky guys you've got Keighley"

A quick look on google reveals that the overwing emergency doors on a B737 (the type I was on) are not 'plug doors'. You just pull the lever and the door hinges outwards by itself. it doesn't come inwards like a plug door needs to. So air pressure would help the door open. It is much less than 2 square metres, maybe half that, still there would be about 5 tons (your calcs) of pressure helping the door to open.
True, but another quick look on Google also says the B737 overwing emergency doors are locked by a 28v solenoid deadbolt in flight and cannot be opened (even in the event of a power failure) until the captain unlocks them. grumbledoak said:
Have you fellas heard the pilot announce things like "Doors to manual" when they want to let the paying baggage out?
That's to disable the escape slides.I didn't get the chance to try the over wing exits in flight, didn't think it was the best move when there was a passenger sitting in the seat next to it. That said, they were buggers to open even on the ground!

Is there a word for someone who is the opposite of paranoid? Someone who assumes everyone thinks they are a great guy when everyone really thinks they are a pratt and fantasises about burning their farms, razing their cities and driving their armies into the sea.

I can confirm the main cabin doors can't be opened at altitude on a 737, a fact I used to take great delight in proving to my colleagues and passengers at every opportunity. It did result in a few panicked faces on occasion and one screaming crew member, but it used to brighten up my day a little!!

What purpose do the spinning discs either side of the thruster levers serve?

I can't see the vid but I'm guessing they are trim wheels. Is it an airliner? What purpose do the spinning discs either side of the thruster levers serve?

seems odd that almost every other minority channel has plus 1, even channel 4 and 5s repeat channels have a plus 1, but not the main broadcasters channel
The plus ones are really an advertising issue. For zero incremental investment (well a little on broadcast but even that is mostly fixed) you get a whole new channel.
That channel WILL gain eyeballs which you can resell to your ad customers (who typically buy in CPMs - cost per thousand).
Also, since most advertising is sold in bundles, as soon as say Channel 4 offers BOTH Channel 4 and 4+1 in their bundle, Channel 5 has to do it too.
Obviously this isn't relevant to the BBC.

Plastic bottle tops, who buys them & how much are they worth?
(Local Sainsbury's are collecting them to buy a boy a wheelchair)
As pre-sorted plastics they're worth about £150/ton, but I think it's more about getting people to put a little effort in.(Local Sainsbury's are collecting them to buy a boy a wheelchair)
In my day, it was milk bottle tops for the blind; I don't think the scrap Al was worth that much...
