I've been nominated. Guy who nominated me gave me 24 hours...but didn't even know he had to do it for charity and 'wasn't going to do it until he was paid'. Lame.

I'll do it but not within 24 hours. I will also donate to charity. I will also donate (somehow) the water I have wasted to charity too.

Who on earth at Macmillan decided to highjack the trend for their own ends.
More than a scandal, absolute disgrace. Seems like corporate charity gone mad.. I can see it backfiring against them big time which is a shame as they do a lot if good but this stinks..

"The Cancer Society, a cancer charity in New Zealand, thanked those who had so far donated through the “Ice Water Challenge” in a statement dated 8 July 2014. Macmillan went on to receive its first donation as a result of the challenge on 23 July.

The ALS Association stated on its website on 12 August that it had received $4m in the two weeks since 29 July, which appears to be the date that the charity started promoting the campaign.

Former Boston College basketball player, Peter Frayes, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2012, has been credited by some, including the MND Association, for helping the trend go viral. His video for #icebucketchallenge was posted to Facebook on 31 July."

Deep joy. I knew I was on dodgy ground when both brothers got nominated separately on the same day,

Will have to wait a few days for me to get home though.

Brilliant. What a sheep. Didn't even know why he was doing it!?

OK-so how do we KNOW how cold the 'ice water' is?

You don't. You just take peoples words for it that it is cold water with added ice.
If I was on any of the social media sites and was nominated then I wouldn't half ass it and have the bucket filled with warm water and ice hehe

And I'm not even ashamed! It's a hell of a lot of recognition for a great cause!

Getting fked off with this now - had about five of these stupid nominations rolleyes I'd come off FB in a heartbeat tbh, if it wasn't for family and friends in faraway places.

Those of you saying 'i've been nominated but not bothering' you don't have to do it you could just donate £5 by texting ICED55.

MNDA are a tiny charity compared to the big cancer charities and to put it bluntly there is no cure to mnd.

If you have cancer at least there are cures if caught early enough, if you or your family (because it does stay in the family genes) have mnd then that's it, no cure.

I've bitten my tongue too long on this ice bucket challenge thing.
Having worked for one of the charities involved at a regional level I would like to say this to anybody who intends to donate to medical condition specific charities.
Don't give to national office, give it to your local branch where it can go directly to the people who can benefit from your generosity.
That's about as much as I can say

I'm not the only one who thinks it's just a complete fad and utterly stupid then? People are doing it for the sake of doing it rather than for the reasons of helping charity.

I got nominated last night and I was a miserable sod, donated 5 dollars worth to the charity and posted on FB:

I was nominated to throw some cold water over my head, however, I thought it'd be much better to donate some money to charity which I've now done. If everyone who has done the Ice Bucket Challenge did the same, think of how much money we'd have raised!

I got called miserable hehe

Agreed, there's only so much publicity a small charity needs.

It's cold hard cash that provides care or funds research, hence why i'll be tipping a bucket of mobile phones on my head and texting a donation to mnd.

You may as well delete FB, it's basically The Ice Bucket Challenge Channel now. That's all I've seen for over a week. Egotistical aholes all trying to outdo each other whilst pretending to care about whatever cause they say they're raising money for.

I give to the charities that I support if and when I like. I couldn't give a toss about all this "wow look at me" crap and I don't care how many times someone nominates me. fking sheep.
