Play on a building site ..... climbing up the scaffolding to the first floor (or higher) and jumping off into a pile of sand. Playing in the dug out footings pretending you were 'at war' in the trenches. Climbing all over dumper trucks, road rollers and diggers where you might be lucky enough to come across one that you could actually start up.

I chucked a few of these out last week, at the time thinking that they'll never be needed again. Are they particularly old tech?

Another thing children will never do: get up and walk across the room to change TV channels.

Christ! How old are you???? I'm 45, and I've never done any of the ones I've bolded!!! Granted, I've watched others being fixed by Savile, I have used a V2000 VCR, and I did have the opportunity to watch Miss World, but why bother when there was hedge porn to be found, but for the rest - apart from Led Zep, and how many people actually did get to see them anyway, the lucky fkers - these were the domain of kids of the 50s, surely?
Let's just say I have done all those things......biggrin

(Except the last one.....thank god)

How about floppy discs, are they/will they still be used?
It won't be long until some kid sees one and thinks "why did someone 3d print the save icon?"...

Ha! I was thinking about this as I was reading through the thread! Even modern tech like the first iPod baffles those kids! Makes me feel really old and I'm only 28!

When my youngest was about 3 or 4, he was sitting on the knee of a friend's daughter, playing his Game Boy and telling her how it worked.

She said "we never had anything like that when I was a little girl" to which he replied "it must have been horrible, growing up in the olden days." She was 14 at the time!!!

My eldest niece thought my sister only had black and white TV to watch - my sister is 37.

I was with my brother at the weekend, reminiscing, as you do.

And we talked about how we used to go to the record shop (Our price) on a Saturday and buy a 7 inch single. If the shop didn't have it Woolworths was the next option.

The pleasure we derived from that and taking it home to put on the record player and listen to it non stop all afternoon.

Kids now will never do that!

What else will the youth of today never enjoy or dread?
Don't be so sure. I'm 17 and very pleased to have an expanding collection of vinyl, currently standing at approx 35 LPs and 25 45s. It's fortunate that there's a record shop within walking distance.

What I'm worried about is the future of the print industry. I try not to buy records too frequently because I don't have a proper job yet, but every month, without fail, I will leave school to get to Smith's and pick up my copy of Custom Car on the day of its release. I always get very excited about that. Sadly, with everything going digital, the children of the future may not have that pleasure.
I agree with this except for in the area of pornography. It's much better now the interweb has been invented smile

I still use Scart leads. It's the only input on my TV.

Then again, I use the TV about twice a year

Buy sweets for 1p each.
I remember some sweets for 0.5p! On that note, they won't experience 0.5p coins.
I remember 4 for 1d - yes I am that old.
That was after the price increase made them expensive. I recall 8 for 1d (4 for a h'apenny), Blackjacks & Fruit Salads.
You guys must be very old. I remember them at 1/2p.

I'm 27 and never experienced a rotary phone. Maybe you lot are just REALLY old?
I'm 34 and I've used a rotary phone.
My four year old daughter has used one at my mate's villa in Tuscany. He keeps it to amuse kids.

yes

1/2p for me too, odd how they were always penny sweets though. Guess that came from the old 1d being worth about 1/2p.

Make a reverse charges call to their mum to pick them up after spending all their money including bus fare home on penny sweets and a copy of Razzle Magazine.
