Just returned from a strange week in the Loire Valley, France. Blazing hot sun and a driving cold wind meant we could see heat mirages on the roads in single digit temperatures. Our boiler had packed up over winter, leaving us with no heating or hot water and just sub-zero temps at night. Brrrrr....

Looks like a cold shot next week, Greenland high, high in the Atlantic west of Ireland and low near Scandinavia will bring some abnormally cool temps. Some good odds for hill snow in the normal spots.

If this was Jan/Feb, we'd be salivating - now it's unwanted and certainly added to the dry soil, really quite damaging for crops.

April is a funny old month, isn't it.

I'm all geared up for the better weather now. However, I keep seeing hints that the cold still hasn't gone. Seems to have been quite a long winter.

It makes the cycling interesting. One day you are in shorts, a few days later you are back in the cooler weather gear.

I distinctly remember being at a theme park in April around ten or so years ago now. It snowed quite a lot. Didn't really settle, but was quite good fun being on a rollercoaster in a snow shower.

Agreed. Last year we had a week of sunny weather followed by this on the 28th April:

All this high pressure and dry weather - it doesn't bode well for summer, with Sod's Law well in control...

Often get late cooler blasts in April, English gardeners have been worrying about the tops of their early potatoes and losing set plums since time began!

Bugger.

Was looking forward to a nice summer on the bike. Looks like I'll continue riding in crap weather for the next three months. smile

At least the roads won't be glistening with frost and ice (that was a bit worrying on normal tyres).

Official drought down here now, 3 weeks of wall-to-wall sunshine, long may it continue. Bottoms up!

IMO this thread is over - I was in the sea today and too hot in a 5mm wetsuit. 19°c apparently in the way home.

BBQ on, beers open. And I'm in a very good mood. beer

Due out on the bike later. Not sure yet though whether I need to take the old hybrid with mudguards or the new road bike without.

Supposed to have had snow here (Lincolnshire) last night, but nothing materialised. We are forecast some very light rain at 18:00, but its a bit cool and sunny now.
