Do those actually work? I'm terrified of those things being some sort of spyware (ok, terrified might be stretch, but I'm a bit hesitant)
Yes, the mainstream ones are all absolutely fine. Millions of people use them. If you need any guidance, just ask, plenty of techies here to help smile . I personally like uBlock Origin for blocking all youtube ad crap as it works well. Direct link here if you use Chrome browser - https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ublock-or... . Just click the install button and after 10 seconds or so it's done and running. Nothing else to do ! smile
Looks like Youtube has recently detected uBlock users and no longer works properly if you are logged in.

Nope. Works fine as discussed at length in the specific thread.

Would you have a link to that thread? I'll never find it on my own. Thanks

What annoys me is when you see the emergency vehicle in your mirror, so pull over, and then the car behind you overtakes right in front of the ambulance etc.
This happens so frequently, that you have to wonder if all cars now have rear view mirrors! I’m in my late sixties, but can still move my head and eyes sufficiently to check the mirrors as I’m driving. It seems that awareness of what is on either side and behind you is becoming increasingly rare, but often people don’t seem to know what’s going on in front of them, so perhaps expecting them to check their mirrors is too much. 🤔

There does seem to a an increasingly large number of drivers who freeze up when an emergency vehicle is around, and they end up being in the way or actually blocking it rather than simply pulling out of the way or continuing on as normal until they can pull over. I can't quite get my head around how some people are so thick or inept as to panic and stop dead, totally in the way.

I appreciate this is singularly my problem.

Looking in a shop window that I'm about to enter. Only to see ZERO other customers even browsing and at least 3 members of staff just waiting to pounce on you as soon as you even open the door. I won't even enter those stores it bugs me so much! laugh

3 shops today I wanted to enter but didn't even bother!

I like to buy clothes in person. (cause I'm always between sizes no matter what it is!) But this over staffing in shops pushes me towards online, and then just returning whatever I don't like, instead of being harassed for 5 mins in person
I thought it was just me rofl

Couldn't agree more though, because you know as soon as you go in they'll be following you round the whole time.

What annoys me is when you see a Police Car with the blues & twos on and you pull over to let it by and it pulls up behind you frown

Yep, tight people demanding something for free yet not being willing to sit through a 5 second add (or pay £30p/month via a VPN) annoy me too.

But isn't it cathartic when you pull over heart racing and they DO fly past! biggrin

Yes it is and I really think that having revolving number plates on my DB5, was well worth the money. Tricks them every time.

Why is my heart racing when I know I've done nothing wrong? I hope! Can never be absolutely certain until they've gone by. hehe

I'm a boring old fart now so getting pulled is highly unlikely. irked

Very much this.

re. the "5 second ad" bit, when watching stuff on my Sky box (which doesn't allow use of a VPN or ad blocker) in the lounge on the TV or projector, I'd quite often switch to the YouTube app to watch a few videos, but these days, I've changed to watching YouTube via my computer, which is also now wired into the tv and projector as I got sick of the ads. It was ok when it was a 5-10 second ad, but more often than not it's a 45+ second series of ads without the option to skip them. Even that wouldn't be TOO bad if it was just at the start of the (say) 30 minute YouTube video, but now I can expect at least 2 more ad breaks in the middle of the video as well.

Watching it via the computer still works perfectly without ads using Ublock Origin.

Also, as for the "30p per month" for a VPN, the following are some of the current (February 2024) recommended VPNs. Maybe it's me, but I can't see any that are close to "30p per month".

I'm not sure what "£30p" means, but maybe he's suggesting you can get Youtube Premium for 30p a month if you VPN via some countries. I think it's rather more, but way less than UK.

Fair enough, but in that case wouldn't one would be paying 30p per month to YouTube in addition to the cost of a VPN?

How much is £30p in real money?

Why do people leave tat on the street with a 'help yourself, free!' type of sign on it, as if they are doing someone a favour. It's absolute garbage. A person over the road had a chest of drawers out with this sort of sign and I would have been embarrassed to admit I had even owned it. It would have been cruel to house woodlice in it. I saw an electric lamp yesterday, with a 'free lamp, take if you want it' sign, It was an absolute piece of crap and was sat out in the rain. Are people just taking the piss?
