If the winner can then sell on at a profit then so be it he has no contractual relationship with the hirer of the unit so I can't see a route for the winner to have legal obligation to pay any 'profit' back to the hirer.

4rephill has pretty much covered it above, but in answer to your question the storage company will have a lien over the contents of the unit. Mr Tidy, thanks for the info I thought that you would have a clause claiming title in the hire contract, I'm of the opinion that in the UK such a clause could fall foul of the unfair contract terms act and be deemed void, I assume that why you need to make an inventory in the UK , to show you have been reasonable. Am i thinking right?
