This thread made me go on a wild jobhunt... I don't know how many roles I applied for, but it was a lot. There's clearly a lot of growth in my sector at the moment.

I like my job. The hours are bad, but the rest is great.

Make sure you have a firm offer before you cash your chips in.

... the pay is st and you only get promoted if you're a self-promoting, arselicking, gladhanding, disingenuous gobste who doesn't actually do anything. Unfortunately I have a moral compass and a work ethic so I can't bring myself to be the above type of person.

Also, we're not allowed to open the windows so I spend most of my time struggling to breathe and nursing a debilitating headache.

Seems to be the current mentality in most places... I have no value so let me tell everyone how valuble I am and hopefully they will see the hype... salesmen the lot of them... (sorry any salesmen!)

I hate the fact the bloke Im supposed to be working with tells me fk all about what hes actually doing and would far rather be doing it on his own.

I dislike the fact my manager, while fantastic at his day job, is a terrible people manager and cant see what is going on with his staff.

I dislike the fact there appears to be no progression or development opportunities until someone retires.

I dislike being sat behind a desk all day.

I find it annoying that I spend 4 days a week away from home for work.

I like the fact it pays fairly well.

I hope my boss has no idea who I am!

I'm amazed at this thread.

I fell into an industry and a job. No plans, no design, no aims. Thirty years later and I love my role, no day is the same, challenges every day and I'm really disrupting the whole industry.

Love it.

Two years into my (then) career, I hated it and walked away. I'd have no hesitation doing the same now if needed.

Yeah! It's lovely working 10 hour days in 34-38 degrees with high humidity fo 6 days a week. Too knackered to do anything but rest on day 7! smile

I have two jobs...one I dislike, wouldn't say hate, but it isn't where I want to be at 26. It's the same thing everyday.

My second job (which isn't really a job as its voluntary), but I love it. No two shifts are the same. More importantly, it's appreciated when I come in by my supervison and colleagues which goes a long way.

Got a interview in June to hopefully get paid to do it!

People.

People are strange, they get aggressive when they are scared they get verbal diarroahea, they become mute, they dont listen to simple instructions (for example I always have to tell people to lie on their backs with their head on the pillow if I just told them to lie down 9times out of 10 they would lie on their belly with their feet on the pillow) they become paralysed and become completely incapable of doing the simplest task themselves.

Mind you on the rare occasions when someone actually appreciates what we do for them it is a great feeling
Is it just me or does this post seem more than a bit rapey? smile

I hope you do something in the NHS or emergency services, and not something that involves Rohypnol and gaffer tape!

P.S. I love my job (sorry! smile)

I hate (perhaps get frustrated/bored is a better word) when it is too quiet. It's much better to be doing stuff and be able to learn different things or see how things develop from expectations to the end result. Generally really enjoy it though.

I was hating my job towards the end of last year, and when I thought over it I had detested where the industry had moved to for the previous 5 years, so made an active decision to bank every bit of cash I could to give me both a cushion and a way out. Handed notice in end of March, negotiated notice down from 6 months to 4 weeks ("do you really want someone here that doesn't want to be here?") and last week started a 16 week intensive "trades" course. I might come to hate plumbing, gas and electrics, but it sure gave me a boost to say fk this and do something about it. The fact I had been considering at least learning it for years gives me the confidence that it is what I wanted to do.

Life is really short, we spend more time working than doing what we love, so if you hate the bits that have to pay for the stuff you want to do/have, change it!

The core bit of my job is actually quite good. However:

Painfully long commute (not really their fault but it does make every day long and a bit pants for me).
A boss who is fundamentally a nice guy trying to do a good job but who sounds like David Brent.
A toxic culture of gossiping, briefing against people and Machiavellian plots - and a wider management chain that tolerates and, indeed, makes management decisions based on this.
Constant reorganisations, usually accompanied by pissing contests and land grabs between higher level managers.

So tomorrow I'm resigning. fk them.

Plus I'm going to a job where they're going to pay me for doing what a lot of people with an interest in the subject would pay to do. smile

"I need a minimun of two weeks to test and comission in this new piece of equipment we are designing".
Ok, that sounds reasonable.

Design is delayed
Manufacturing is delayed because other things jump the queue

Next step :

"The customer wants it NOW, and we have just finished building it, so we have booked freight for pickup in two days.
It will take 1/2 day to pack, so you have a day to do the test and comissioning"

If you're not happy, leave and do something different, or do the same thing somewhere else.

Of course, it's the easiest thing in the world to say that to someone as a throwaway remark without knowing anything of their financial and personal circumstances smile

My own view is that you have to enjoy your work because typically you'll spend more time doing it than you will anything else.

Find something you love doing and you won't do a days work in your life.
