Drink problem boss.

You'll all hate him for this:

Really pushed his luck with the after work drinks v's the drive home (he did get banned eventually)

I especially hate him for this:

Company policy was double rooms for all staff whilst staying away on work. I got the short straw and had to share with pi55head boss - 3am in the morning I wake to the sound of running 'water' and just about make out the outline of someone merrily filling the wardrobe with wee... my wardrobe yikes

I jump up and shout at him, he turns round in a half drunken sleep but carries on his pee parade... all over the end of my bed grumpy

My worst ever boss (line manager, not company manager) was a complete c nt.

He would set you up for a fall, then make sure he was around to observe the fall. He employed a load of his mates who had been told that the job was easy, they didn't last once they realised they were expected to work and not sit there and look pretty. He stole services from the company in the form of contracted out jobs, yet when reported (with paperwork backing it up) the company decided to believe him. Then he got a god complex and went mental. He started going out with the daughter of the site owner as it made him quite difficult to sack due to the leeway the site owner gave the company. His reputation within the company has suffered in the economic downturn though as he now has to run a workshop with 1 mechanic per area as opposed to 3. I think people are now seeing him for the Billy Bullstter that he really is.

In short, a total and utter c nt.

Still, I know where he lives...

The current one. A Managing Director who neither manages, nor directs.

Just shuts himself in his office and then looks bewildered when things arent done or people dont know whats going on. You havent actually asked us to do them yet or told us whats going on, clown-shoes.

In his own words "Ive employed people, they should just do stuff, without any input from me."

Riiight.

Been quite lucky I think and not really had any really bad bosses. In fact, I have mainly had good ones! But I do remember one who was as limp as a wet bit of letuce. She was the most useless sales manager ever and would let the chosen ones steal deals from the ones she fell out with (over something as simple as the coffee round!) and then try and sack the ones who didnt perform! Basically she called the shots as to who lived and died on the sales floor....

I didn't quite report directly to her, but it was a sort of dotted line thing. But she decided to try and get me fired for something she hadnt done and I was to be the scape goat that week. Anyway, not the smartest cookie and I had enough at that point - told her boss what was going on and walked out. Had a beer in the local (walked to work then) and started to phone contacts I knew for a new job. My other team members realised what was happening and walked out with me and the sales manager was fired within the week.

She fell to bits after that too. Went completely off the rails and marriage breakdown etc. Did feel a small twinge of guilt for it, but no one had stood up to her for years (foolishly, and more an indication of her boss too - maybe there was something going on?). Anyway, she never worked again as she had no contacts, no prospects and everyone knew she was not to be trusted.

Make your bed, you lie in it!

I was a chef when i was younger, many difficult bosses, but only one bad one. Although i have had many st bosses since leaving the catering industry i have managed to work out a good working compromise with most of them. They leave me doing what i'm doing once they understand that i am lazy, easily distracted and very very good at what i currently do, but most importantly they soon notice that i never miss deadlines and tend to be the calm one sorting out any major issues when needed.

My worst boss was a vile powermad head chef, i got into a massive row with him about his ineptitude and inability to run a busy kitchen, his manager asked what it was about and then he asked me if i thought i could do a better job? I said yes, was given the responsibility as a laugh between the Head Chef and his boss. Two weeks later the Head Chef was told he was no longer needed and given his marching orders. thumbup

My worse boss was a convicted terrorist who would have been executed if he had returned to his own country. He carried on his campaign of terror by setting up a small software company in the UK and terrorising the staff instead. I have never met a more sadistic bd in my life.

Myself - I let me bunk off too much, lack a clear direction and get distracted easily.

I'm also the best boss I've ever had.

Mr D.

He was the Manager of a team of 10. He carefully spread his workload around all 10, avoiding him doing any work whatsoever. He'd avoid all meetings making us go instead and asked us to cover for his wherabouts on a daily baisis. Apart from meetings, where his mistress lived. He change his flights at the last minute so he could stay over, he expected us to lie to his wife if she called - he even had the cheek to give me a note of both their names so I didn't get them confused!

Everyone hated him - he was a vindictive bully who let it be known that crossing him would result in 'problems' if we applied for other roles in the organisation.

My best day was I arriving at work early, to find him sitting in his (glass windowed) office wearing a 2 sizes too small 70s two tone suit with a purple wooly gardening jumper underneath, odd socks and stripy slippers on his feet and a pair of thick black, wonky NHS specs with broken handles, instead of his usual ones.

His wife had thrown him out in the night and that's the clothing she'd picked to send him on his way. Top marks! He barked "don't tell anyone you've seen me, I'm going to M&S as soon as they open". He bumped into lots of people on his way to the car park!!

Shortly after that he lost his job. Tosser.

I worked for a local 4* hotel that paid a football stitchers wage.
I was 16 - being paid £2.82 to do silver service waiting.
There were 3 restaurant managers as the restaurant was absolutely huge.
2 were really nice blokes.
The 3rd, what a , he must of been about 45 at the time & would shout at staff in front of the customers, he stank, never ware deoderant & told me once that if i did'nt work at least 9 shifts per week he'd personally sack me, it did'nt phase me at the time, as i ignored him, i wanted the work & just got on with it.
The crowning moment though was when he had a go @ one of us & a customer called him over, he went into brown nosing mode as he was a sleazy tt, sucking up to the customers & berating all of us, the customer kindly told him what a prick he was, told him he needed to learn some respect & buy some deoderant, we all thought this was brilliant, the customer also made an official complaint, we all took the brunt of this & after breakfast service he made us lay him up a full 3 course silver dinner set, plates, side plates, glasses, wine glasses, clean table cloth, cups etc etc etc.
We took great pleasure in wiping the cutlery up our arse, licking the plates etc.
A year or so ago, we were in the local pub, he was drinking in there & we kindly let him know, how we're in higher earning jobs than him now.

A previous boss was promoted out of his job as an electrical safety type guy before he managed to kill someone. One of his responsibilities was the large fish tank in reception. He was discovered one day wearing a pair of swimming goggles on with his head in the tank trying to see things from the fish's point of view.
After he was promoted he got drunk at a works do and spent the whole night trying to get off with one of the woman he managed, who punched him after he licked her armpit in the middle of a packed dancefloor.
After the sexual harrassment case was dropped he was told to calm down so at the next do he got plastered, climbed onto the stage during the boardmembers address, missed his footing and fell off the stage, breaking his ankle in the process.
Again, he got away with a telling off.
Next works do, he was under strict instructions not to dring at all but had a skinful and spent the evening heckling the board members during their speeches accusing them of religious discrimination.

he got suspended for a couple of weeks.

I miss him, he made the rest of us look fantastic smile

The boss I had the misfortune to work for in my last job, for 13 years.

He was the living epitome of Mr Burns from the Simpsons. He had the long nose, the overbite, the grey balding head, even the 'dinosaur' hands when he walked around.

Only ever employed male workers (except the cleaner), and ran the place like a Headmaster.

You were allowed no opinion or input, and if you had any means to disagree with what he said, you were thrown out of his office. Oh, and if you came into work without a tie, you'd be sent home to get it.

He always had an office 'favourite', who he'd take away on holiday several times a year, and run him around on errands throughout the day, in his XKR, or his Vanquish, or his RR, or whatever he'd bought that week.

I remember we had a disagreement once, when I actually had the balls to stand up to what he was saying. He didn't speak to me for an entire year. That's right, A YEAR. Even if we physically met on the stairs, he'd completely blank me.

Still, it was the first Full Time job I'd ever had, and I got promoted several times throughout the 13 years, culminating in overseeing our operations in China from 2003 to 2006, before I finally saw sence and left.

Current boss. MD who couldn't direct traffic. Good salesman in his time though.

Recruits and pays experienced software sales account managers well into six figures. Micro manages them 24x7 (literally, must be on messanger and responding at all times) and will not allow them to work in the way that has brought them success in the past. "My way or the highway" - guess what happens.

Net result, professionals acting like a fish out of water with prospects, knifed behind their back and publicly ridiculed in front of peers, demoralised and demotivated and a high staff turnover. Aggressive with staff and customers alike. We have had to send apology gifts to women who have been on the rough end of his abuse on concalls. As we start to set up a channel operation, he treats partners as sales opportunities rather than trying to maximise joint business and expects them to be micro managed by the channel manager.

In the last 2 and a half years, every account manager except one that has currently been with us 9 months has left - and the final one is looking. He has also recruited a couple of complete duffers in that time too. Even the headhunters are aware of his reputation - not bad in just a few short years as an MD.

The worst part is, he know MASSES about the industry and the people in it, but keeps it all to himself. When I started, I expected him to impart as much of his knowledge as he could, do joint visits to clients etc.

None of it. Its taken me two years to learn a fraction of what is already long-held wisdom to him, if only he would bother letting it on to me. Fine, I get paid either way, but the business could have benefitted significantly, if he'd bothered to do a bit of training or just regular meetings.

We dont meet as a company, ever. I tried to implement a once-monthly meeting, which isnt much. Just to get everyone on the same page once a month and share the knowledge we picked up over the last 4 weeks. We managed two meetings before he stopped calling them. Couldnt be bothered. Therefore, neither can I.

Very similar to this, expects you to be a mind reader and you are always wrong no matter how right you are. How these people suceed for any period of time in business is beyond me.
