so sad they all go, I still get choked about the lost friends, especially my first dog, still find myself talking to her 10 years on. I hope they all get to be friends somewhere, they deserve it more than most people.

so sorry for your loss.
A bit close to home for me as my dog has just been diagnosed with a tumour in his sinus.

Thanks for all the kind words, it means a lot, although I still fell as if my right arm has been torn off...

We made the decision to get a puppy, as Murph is not the most stable individual, and he just would not be able to be the only dog in the house, and needs a buddy. Those pictures will be posted on a new thread, out of respect for the Boss....who'd have thought that putting a loaf of bread away would reduce me to tears - 1 less slice of toast in the morning...

Very moving. I don't feel that way about my bloody cats.

ETA: I hope the new puppy brings you as much joy as Bobo did.

Beautiful words for an obviously well loved friend, tears in my eyes now. I hope our boy lives to such a grand age.

Like I said, I know exactly what you mean. I've just seen one of Delta's black furs on the skirting board (and I'm talking about one single, solitary hair) and that's set me off again.

I don't think I can cope with another dog, especially not a GSD. I feel like it would be disloyal to Delta.

Sorry for the semi thread hijack btw.

Dibble, your words on Delta's passing prompted me to post what i'd put down about the Boss, and for that, I thank you, and also share in your loss of a beautiful dog.

If it had ben my choice, I'd have got a GSD in a heartbeat, but due to the size of our house, a full grown GSD was not an option..

Cheers cp.

Not looking forward to collecting Delta's ashes tomorrow. I know he was "only" a dog, and I've lost family members and close friends, but it's been a tough few days missing the big dopey idiot.

there is no such thing as 'only' a dog'

When I need to take a day off, I tell the office I'm looking after the kids, perfectly normal to me!!

RIP Bobo - and welcome home.

This thread has got me remembering - and seemingly leaking from my eyes!

We had our Boxer, Ben, PTS 2.5 years ago. It was a quick decline in health, and an even quicker period to have to make the terrible decision - but you do whats best for your baby.

When we collected his ashes, I said exactly the same thing as you did Celtic. We have him on our sideboard, with his favourite squeaky and one of his gravy bones on top of him - and it has been that way since we brought him home. He was cremated with his fave cuddly toysmile

It took 6mths to even think about getting another dog. The house was so empty. It didnt help we had to have our last cat put to sleep 2 nights before the puppy came home.

Ella is nearly 2 now, and I love her like a child. Ben will always hold his own special place in my heart, and I know I am pertified of losing Ella but they always stay with us in their own ways.

A dog is a member of your family, and when they go it's heartbreaking. It is tough collecting them, but Delta will be back where he was happiest. At home, with you.

I'm sorry for your loss.

He was more than just a dog to us. It might sound daft, but I'm not even sure I want his ashes back. If we lived somewhere we'd be staying forever, I think he'd have come home with us and I'd have buried him.

I know exactly what you mean there... Could never sell the bit of land that my Storm and Rush are buried under... It's been 5 years now and I still sometimes call the grand-daughter 'Storm' - she ignores it of course and she never met her granny, so has no idea why I burst into tears every time I realise what I just did...

Soppy buggers, us dog owners, aren't we...

I have 3 sets of ashes in the house..

Bobo, obviously, Harry our staffie X who fell to prostrate cancer (replaced by Murph) and Guinness, my collie X from when i lived at home. I speak to them every day, say hello, and always raise the 1st beer of the evening in their direction - I'm not mad or anything, just a hello!!
