I think it's inevitable with any forum of a decent size that there will be a few characters and a few abrasive people in there and I think the reason these threads seem to crop up more and more is just down to the fact that PH is a lot bigger than it used to be. However, I think considering it's size PH is still quite a friendly and entertaining place to be, certainly a lot better than a lot of the other forums I have spent time on.

someone asks a question, people provide answers. some deem the question laughable at times and post appropriately. at times, one persons opinion is pissed on by another, which is where fights start.

I've been guilty a couple of times, but usually this is due to the lateness of the hour and consumption of alcohol. if I piss someone off I reread my post and apologise if I was being stty. its when people don't do this that grudges and slanging matches occur.

Any forum has exceptions, but overall, PH seems to me to be less affected than many; there are a few fairly ideologically driven people who post a series of threads slagging a particular brand. However, I have often posted queries here and it is amazing just how much knowledge and experience exists here.
Fully agree and I think it is due to the good level of Moderation that comes with it.

On most of the motoring forums I'm on technical questions will be answered by both the knowledgeable and the misinformed. Seperating the wheat from the chaff is the difficult part!

I had a directorship once, but I put ointment on it and it got better.

Often alcohol induced, this sums it up for me.

I find the repost police and spelling police much more annoying though. In order to qualify as a PH poster one must first read the entire contents of PH to ensure we don't upset the repost police and then we must transfer our intended post to MS Word to complete the obligatory spell check or suffer the wrath of the spelling police.

If some people get put off by a few posts of others on the internet how on earth do they cope with the rest of their lives?

Are people really that timid that they cannot ignor the posts of a few in and take note of interesting posts?

It's a forum... Opinions will differ, exchanges can get heated, and people will talk nonsense... I don't find this any way unexpected. It is the same in the local pub.

If you use a decent browser, it spellchecks as you write. Firefox does this, presumably others do too.
