Much calmer tomorrow, and the low pressure is pulling cold in behind tomorrow - looks like the most likely area for snow is now elevated areas of South Wales...
Won't last long though - will melt fast if it settles
Typical when we get snow im down in andover I want to play in the snow. Won't last long though - will melt fast if it settles
What part of the elevated ares of south wales are we talking about the waste lands of Merthyr and upwards or further south into the valleys ie blackwood where I live.

Calmed down now clear skies so guess the worst has passed.

Crazy wind last night in Lancashire, though I do live in a village on top of a hill..
Power cuts, no street lights. Actually had to pull over driving as the wipers could not keep up with the rain!
Anyway. Where is the snow at? This has been such a mild December.
Could be some snow on the hills in Lancs later today!Power cuts, no street lights. Actually had to pull over driving as the wipers could not keep up with the rain!

Models are showing potential for a cold spell as we enter January, but no promises.
Interestingly central Siberia has also been suffering a lack of cold/snow for the first time in living memory!

Cypress and so on! It's been mild in Norway, and looks like it will be that way for at least the next week or so. No skiing!Power cuts, no street lights. Actually had to pull over driving as the wipers could not keep up with the rain!

I maintain that January and February could give us something very special indeed.
The LRF models are starting to hint at some very wintry conditions as we progress through the season. All the cold bottled up in the Arctic has to snap at sometime and when it does, it may be a case of be careful what you wished for.

Didn't you "maintain" they'd be snowy conditions in December? The LRF models are starting to hint at some very wintry conditions as we progress through the season. All the cold bottled up in the Arctic has to snap at sometime and when it does, it may be a case of be careful what you wished for.
I think I'll wait for the Met Office predictions.

I need to know for Feb as I'm planning a trip to Glasgow and it's 6 - 7 hours on the trains. The LRF models are starting to hint at some very wintry conditions as we progress through the season. (To see a DJ, not just a general trip).

Au contraire, mon cherie... I think I'll wait for the Met Office predictions.

Bearing in mind a lot of this is pure conjecture, as the charts are more vague than an MP answering a closed question at this stage, I’m going to go for:
November: Starting mildish, followed by a shortlived cold snap, bringing some transitory snow to the East & North East before turning mildish towards the middle / end of the month, with a pretty normal balance of grey, Atlantic dominated weather.
December: Continuing mildish and grey until about the beginning of the third week and then turning quite a bit colder, with regular snow showers across and occasionally heavy snow across the country (extreme SW excepted). Remaining like this until New Year.
January: Starting off cold, with regular snow showers across the country before warming slightly (still below average, though) during the second week of the month, before the freeze really starts around the 20th or so, where it will turn brutally cold with heavy and frequent snowfalls pretty much everywhere (the normal culprits will obviously see the most white stuff).
February: Remaining brutally cold with frequent heavy snowfalls throughout the month.
I may have been a week early on my thoughts for snow in December, as it's looking more likely it'll come on or around 27th. Sorry.
