Of the people I know, the single parents (Inc weekend dads) are a bit council. More that they're parents than being single, having kids prior to being sure they were compatible. Dunno, maybe I've watched too much Kyle.
( Widows/widowers not included, obviously.)

Returning the thread to topic, here is the sign for a barbers just down the road from my student house.

I certainly do agree with the sign.... though not in the way it intends.....

So only 'council' people get divorced?

Um, no.
Only "council" people expect the Govt to support their kids.

I didn't think West Sussex was council. At least, not until I moved here!

Parking their 51 reg. BMW 1 series or other council type vehicles in a disabled bay (without a blue badge), or parking in the mother and child space (without the required nippers).

And not giving it a thought.
Not a particualrly unique 'a bit council' trend.

Worst offenders at my local supermarket are single women who can't be arsed to walk more than a few feet to buy one or two items from the store. Fat birds are especially prone to this!
First part of your post unnecessary, second part spot on.

I think South Yorkshire quite swiftly disproves that one!

Where do things stand with 'bangernomics'? A popular means of economical motoring for many PHers but many of the cars being chosen are decidedly 'council'.

I suspect most people collect their Child Benefit each month.

It's more the "feckless fathers/mothers having kids with multiple partners and not contributing financially towards their upkeep in the knowledge that Nanny State will be along to provide" that, I think, typifies "council" mentality.

That would be quite tricky, considering the 1 Series has only been around since 2004...
