All I can say to that is never buy stretch chinos or jeans. The elastic will fail and you end up with holes.
All my jeans have holes in. It’s so your feet can pop out the bottom.

Srsly though, I tend to wear my jeans until they get large holes in them and I haven’t noticed stretch jeans being any better or worse in this regard.

My biggest issue with stretch material jeans / chinos is that over time, most of them tend to end up saggy at the arse variably.

Although, oddly enough, I've discovered that Primark's stretch chinos seems to be pretty sag-resistant. I bought some as "kick about" items, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

The only downside is that the material is pretty thin and rubbish.

Well after a bit (ok a lot) of procrastination I've treated myself to some Luca Faloni chinos.

With a discount code they aren't much more expensive than stuff like Reiss or Gant so fingers crossed they're decent quality.

Bit of a toss up between them and Asket but Asket haven't had stock showing since before Christmas which kind of decided it.

Went into Uniqlo at the weekend after some recommendations on here, was really impressed with their item quality vs cost, seem very reasonable.

Good isn't it.

I use them for gym wear, track suits and that sort of thing.

If I buy denim (rare) Levis

Knits come from two local manufacturers.

Suits, jackets, trousers and coats are bespoke or made to measure.

Shirts Emmett or Eton

Shoes from a variety of English makers

I try to buy quality everything and keep it for years, adjusting as required. With gym wear that isn't really possible, hence Uniqlo,

If anybody on here does wear their stuff give me a shout. I have some magic beans you might be interested in buying.

Only £700 for a pair of jeans. Going to start using them as garage rags.

Compare Mark with your basic millionaire. If they’re paying £410, he’s paying the equivalent of 1/2p. Something would have to be £1m or more to even register.

Meanwhile, I’ve just put in an order for some Asket T-shirts. Hope they’re as good as they say.

I very much doubt that MZ is paying anything at all.

I reckon their sweatshirt hoodie and terry french trousers wouldn't look out of place in a gym if you are looking for quality. biggrin. I daresay you could even get away with their cashmere knit trousers, a snip at £2700!

Department stores in the sales. House of Fraser type websites.

Filter that I'm a man, this is my size and then browse through what's available on sale

Got a few bits around Christmas/New year this way. Last time I bought full price from a store was last year sometime, paid £25 for a t shirt. I just really liked it, but I would generally cap my jeans spend at that sort of price lol. If jeans are more than £25, I'm probably not gonna buy. The pair I'm wearing now were £15 from House of Fraser, RRP £60. That's the kind of stuff I typically look out for, a reasonable quality garment at a low price.

Won't skimp on footwear though, or coats. Happy to pay a premium for those as waterproof technology, cushioning, warmth etc can't really be done on the cheap, unless you buy something really heavy, which makes it uncomfortable. Will easily drop £100 plus on golf shoes that you'll be walking in for 5 hours or so, plus the waterproof clothing isn't cheap, so will pay the premium when it makes an obvious difference. Otherwise, I'm shopping on the cheap.

The problem is really sweat and the requirement to wash it frequently. Even the best clobber doesn't last when you're doing that.

Socks and pants from M & S, Fat Face or Sainsburys.

Discovered Vinted about 2-3 years ago and have rarely bought new since.

Going downhill now a little as popular sites always do.

Got some bargain cycling and walking stuff when I first used it.

Got a voucher for Next for Christmas and bought a pair of joggers and jeans from Next.
Jeans fit very well and seem to be decent quality for £26.
They'll last maybe 6+ years.

Pretty much this.

I'd like to think if I was in his shoes I wouldn't spend that much but it literally wouldn't even register would it the scales are so skewed relative to the average person.

Thing is stuff like illustrates perfectly what I was trying and perhaps failing to get across.

It's a tee shirt at £410.

There will be more expensive ones available.

Is there anything about it in quality and construction terms that justifies that price or is it quite literally the tag that's in it and the associated costs?

Here is a Loro Piana T shirt for a smidge over £1600.

https://uk.loropiana.com/en/p/man/polo-and-t-shirt...

There are some youtube videos that show the ridiculous lengths they go to, to develop and source their materials. Because the yield on their top end materials is low, they have to turn to hand making stuff in low numbers, which ups the cost again. However, I am sure there is plenty of markup and as ever, there are diminishing returns.

I don't have experience of top end clothing like this, but would guess mid market brands like Sunspel might be hitting a quality / value price point, like a mid range tyre?! Lol. Don't know, I'd be interested to know as well. I did go into the Loro Piana shop on New Bond Street once, the quality was obvious, but I saw a £10k jacket, kind of went wide eyed and walked out. A touch above my price range!
