Some of these theads sound awesome but I'm not clicking them, that NSX one sounds dodgy as hell!
Has P-p-p-p-p-powerbook from Zug been mentioned yet?
Powerbook thread is just awesome beyond words.Has P-p-p-p-p-powerbook from Zug been mentioned yet?
Where's the thread where the Pistonheader begged everyone to send him a little bit of money each after he blew two grand he didn't have in a strip joint & was petrified his wife would find out? I didn't think I'd ever forget his name, but I have.
Our own "Post amazingly cool pictures of aircraft" thread is prety epic in it's own right, but I rather like this anecdote from the Top 10 Flybys post:
Always a source of excellent anecdotes, my favourite was of a goodwill tour somewhere in Africa back in the day, where he and a few mates were invited by a local landowner to a house party. The landowner had been having a problem with a juvenile hippo strolling into the garden and making use of his swimming pool early in the morning...and as these things happen, and some ungodly hour in the morning, monumentally pissed, Guy, his host and a couple of mates decide to shoot the brute, should it be unwise enough to turn up.
Turn up it did, and was duly shot at what must have been unfeasibly short range with an equally unfeasibly large calibre rifle at the edge of the pool. Hippo then proceeded to fall into the pool, and explosively crap itself before expiring. Leaving Guy and the assembled company to try and get the bloody thing out of the pool - apparently the worse hangover in the world is to be developed whilst you're up to your neck in hippo blood, crap and guts trying to extract half a ton of said dead hippo from a swimming pool as the African sun is rising.
I was also present in a formation debriefing when he categorically demolished a still currently serving Air Marshal - I think he was something slightly less grand back then - in an argument over the correct manner of positioning in a formation level turn - which went some way to explaining why Guy retired as a Squadron Leader after serving for..well, ever frankly. Top bloke.

I emailed a copy of that pic to someone I used to work with who used to be stationed there, he reckons it's likely to be Sqn Ldr Pearce flying.
If its the same Sqn Ldr Pearce - and I doubt there was more than one that was a bit of a legend at St.Athan - then I've flown with him on a few occasions. An absolutely charming chap, and a complete legend. Flew absolutely everything in his time, including the Bucc from carriers in an exchange tour.Always a source of excellent anecdotes, my favourite was of a goodwill tour somewhere in Africa back in the day, where he and a few mates were invited by a local landowner to a house party. Thanks for that. I had forgotten how funny that one was...Not so much a legendary thread as a thread about a legend. Modelmaker builds "What If" high altitude reconnaissance version of the Meteor 16 years ago. Said model and fictional back story swirl around the interwebs a few times and start getting believed as fact, appearing in University research reports and being researched by the boys at Langley.

This was quite a good one. Guy claims to have a large collection of cars, disappears for a while then re-appears with a new Jag. Turns out to be a 16 year old boy. Provided much entertainment.
