No, not actively doing stuff doesnt make you any less of an enthusiast but it does stop you from commenting on such things from an inside point of view and thus anything you think is merelyspeculation or hearsay rather than hard facts.
Fair point, but if you've got someone who is prepared to tap away at a keyboard, or even dig about in a library, or even have contacts who may be able to provide answers (for example someone who worked in construction, on the railway etc etc), then surely that would bring more to the site, and enable those who are prepared to do the first hand stuff to bring back better reports...?

Team is greater than the sum of it's parts, and all that.
This makes sense, without historians to do the theoretical stuff, practical archaeologists (which is what these UE guys are) would have a much more difficult job.

I can see why they are protective, using the net is a massive security issue for them as anyone can see what they are up to. I would imagine the authorities would love to infiltrate and close them down in the interests of 'safety' or 'trespassing' or something. I guess they are caught between the need for discretion and the need to share information with fellow enthusiasts. If they were aware that a few serving police officers are members of PH, this might also drive their reaction.

They seem to take considerable physical risks to get their results so again it is not surprising that they are a bit elitist compared to armchair explorers.

Anyway, good luck to them, fascinating hobby.

Rooftopper perhaps you could ask people on your forum to stop vandalising the Wiki page on the Cathedral Steps.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_Cathedral_...
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Manchest...

Such behaviour is childish.
We'd rather not have the unwanted attention it brings to be honest, can you blame us for being over protective?
Yes I can. You're being protective of something which is not your property. Anybody can contribute to the page, but so far none of them have - that demonstrates to me that they have no interest in history whatsoever.

If posters on your forum continue to abuse the Wiki, I shall create links to that page on every single forum and outlet which I am capable of.
Oooh, forum war, thats ing mature.

Sort it out you lot ive come in here trying to discuss this in a proper manner and some of you are just resorting to threats and childish insults.
Nice coming from the guy that told me to Quote "F@ck off".

POD, in the first pic you can see the toilets, in the second picture road works cover that area so they must have been sealing them at that time.
That was my first thought but if you study the other pictures you'll see that the toilets would be out of frame in the image with the roadworks.

I am guessing that the roadworks are the tip of the iceberg, and that out of the image you would have seen the toilet entrances being removed.

for the life of me i have no idea what you are on about. Parrot got abused on 28dl (and then sjn) and so hes brought it to PH to take further.

get over it ffs. go and abuse a few of your users on the forum you administer.
And you accuse the 28dl members of being childish and now youre dismissing me with "go and abuse a few of your users" comments

Pot, kettle, black.
woohoo we got that out of the way. You were fishing for that, made no decent or useful responses to our discussion points.

Moving on.
So one of your members has made a tit of himself by contradicting himself and youre trying to make me look stupid and make inflammatory remarks rather than discussing it appropriately?

Nice.
Not inflammatory - factual. Conversation over - goodnight.

Question for RT.
How do you guys develop your knowledge/experience/enthusiasts if your website is so sensitive to 'unknown' inputs? I'd be genuinely interested in participating but feel a little put off be the reaction to PoD and SJN

It's hardly a page anyone is going to surf to at random, is it?

Which means that anyone reading it has most likely Googled some variant of Manchester underground tunnels. Which in turn surely means that they're just as likely to find your own site's thread about it?

1) 'Urban explorers' run a website where they post their exploits

2) Some PHers tried to join in

3) Explorers didn't take kindly to PH newbies

4) Lots of name calling

5) Very interesting sub-plot regarding tunnels in Manchester that may or may not lead to some disused underground toilets

We've crossed swords with the self proclaimed experts of urban exploration. Their philosophy goes something like this "IT'S MINE ALL MINE Mwhahhhahhahhaah" and we're arguing that perhaps 'it' (manchester tunnels) is ours as well.

You forgot to mention the bit where you contradicted yourself and got made to look abit stupid by even your own board members admissions.

Selective memory eh.

In theory, probably. It's getting the opportunity to refuse that's the difficulty.

Actually, I agree with the man.

Any danger of stopping the unnecessary vitriol..?
