Spanish nomad visas are very compelling - the tax rate is really low (24% if you get paid in Spain)

FYI - digital nomad life in France is a big no-no. Your company has to pay social charges.
Just to add here, my plan is to go somewhere for 1-4 weeks probably at most, and combine this with time off. I need to find an alternative to Air BnB - that's surely a failing model now, the cleaning and service fees just wipe out all possible good deals. It's tiresome.

Anyway, so for example, if I found a place which was good, I may go for two weeks, and have 2-3 days off whilst over there, mixed in with weekends and evenings.

Looked at:

Tenerife but is too much around holiday makers and therefore all accomodation seems hotel based or villas
Valencia - possibility
Malaga and surrounding areas - possibility
Looked also at Southern Italy and even Tuscany
Portugal - possibility. Was supposed to go to Lisbon last month but didn't in the end.

I did also think about South Africa as it's a similar timezone to the UK although it's a big trip and obviously not something I could just hop on a plan with little planning. I've never been there either so not sure what to expect.
Have a look at Malta. Renting a flat there is stupid cheap in January/February.

Just looked at the my solar panel history for March... 2024 was 25% sunnier than 2023, so stop complaining hehe
Is that just because all the rain has washed them clean though and they operate more effectively?

Is it too much for a few days of settled, calm weather?

Hoping to ride at the weekend and whilst its dry it looks like 40mph gusts
Same here, except 50+ gusts down here in Cornwall. What fun.

The last few months are really starting to drag on me now. It just seems to be constant rain, grey skies and flooding around Oxfordshire that just hasnt relented. The rains means all the green lanes around here are absolute mud baths so I've struggled to get out an enjoy myself on the bike, walking to dog is miserable as all the fields are flooded and we always come back absolutely soaked. Paddleboarding used to be fun, but, the weather is minging and the rivers are all filled with sewage. On top of that we've got a weekend in Dartmoor booked this weekend and the forecast is saying rain for every waking hours ffs banghead I can't remember a winter ever being this miserable, we've barely had any nice sunnny, crisp cold days, just constant bloody rain !

Thanks m8. One of my bigger plans is to look to rent for 1-2 months around that period, just to escape for a longer period over the UK winter.

It would be great to plan ahead. It was a huge regret this year when I was sat inside all winter whilst my colleague went to Brazil for 2 months and worked there. I sat at home watching it get dark at 3pm everyday.

The boring and unfortunate fact is, until the jet stream moves north we're stuck like this according to the Met Office and BBC Weather. It being stuck south of us is funnelling all the cross-Atlantic storms straight into us, rather than pushing them into the north pole/Greenland area. But I agree, I might have to turn my garden into a permanent lake with the way this weather has been.

Absolutely fking sick of it. Pissing with fking stty rain the whole bloody time. All the “inside” jobs are done now and I’d like to get out with my boys. The allotment needs starting, the house needs painting, I WANT TO BE OUTSIDE.

But there is no end in sight, just endless pissing rain.

Miserable fking country.

Pretty much this, getting really fed up with it this year. It's not just that it's raining most of the time, even in the gaps in the weather it' still soaking wet and muddy everywhere you go - it really sucks a lot of the enjoyment out of a walk for me if I'm constantly focused on not slipping or sinking and coming back covered in mud.

Same. Dog gets coated in mud on every walk and needs washing off. Mud everywhere. Can't go for a walk in trainers. Has to be in goretex walking boots.

Garden is a mess.

The roads and verges are a mess because people park like tts then the bin lorries have to go on the verge and churn them all up.

All of this just makes me more bemused when I see and hear people say I quite like the UK weather... and go on to say why.

I can see why it being mild most of the time is good, but the rain, the miserable darkness, the unpredicability is just bullst.

Turned out to be quite a pleasant day in Aberdeenshire - light winds and some decent sunshine so decided to take advantage of the extra daylight and get the BBQ fired up.

If the forecast is right I should get out on the XC skis tomorrow evening!

This has got to be one of the worst weather starts to a year in the UK in a very long time. It's endless. I rarely leave the house in the week as after work it's almost always raining and has been for months. In previous years I've been out every day and rarely actually had to use waterproofs and that's for several years.

I’m thinking of a weekend in Spain or Portugal next week to get some actual sun. Maybe Mallorca where it’s sunny and warm. Wales is definitely not sunny or warm right now!

This is turning into a self help group.

Group hug everyone, we can get through this!

Just think, when we can get out in the garden without wellies on, how good it will feel.

It's all down here in Devon.

Absolutely minging this evening - cloud base in the tree-tops, alternating stifling drizzle and pelting rain. Dog took one look out the back door when I was taking her out for a walk, turned round and was headed back to her bed - took some coaxing to get her out and into the car. On the plus side we had a significant chunk of the Grand Western Canal to ourselves, as nobody else was stupid enough to be out of a walk. Sunset apparently at 19:51 but it felt like it was getting dark a *long* time before that.

Went for a walk at lunch and this brook is usually no more than 6 inches deep, today it looked like this, 4 feet up on usual! So how much rain did we get last night?
