Just under 40 d here in mid west France. Been in the pool and the shutters are all closed keeping the house nice and cool. Walk outside and it's like a fan oven at the moment.

Good signals for a repeat next week. In the meantime the south will benefit from being on the edge of the Azores high. More mixed further north.

It was a B and Q special offer unit from a few years ago and from memory was £199, which they dont have anymore.

The only one they have now is this one..

Only thing is, it needs to vent outside with the exhaust, but, with the curtains closed and the window pulled shut enough to hold the vent in place, it works brilliantly, and today, it got the bedroom temp down from 30 to around 22.

They are noisy, but it gets switched off at bedtime once it has done its duty.

They ain't cheap to run, but considering the amount of time it is in use each year, i am more than happy to pay the extra to have a cooler room at night.

This was about 5pm. Went down to 32 after driving for a little bit. I've been working from home with all the windows open and air con on with ice cream on standby..

Going to be an uncomfortable night tonight, still showing 28 here in Dorset right on the coast at 10pm. House is like a sauna even with every window open and fans everywhere.

I don't think that the radiator fan on the car cut out hardly at all yesterday. It was screaming it's nuts off virtually no stop !

One of my dogs went mental at 01.30 and finally fell asleep at 06.30 (and I do mean mental. Bearded Collies and thunder don't mix!)

ETA The other one - a lab, slept through the whole thing.

Temperature graph for Porthmadog in Wales - showing the heat really arrived suddenly, over a couple of days - then vanished again promptly today.

Some storms have cropped up in the Midlands - you may get lucky if some pop up further south...
