If you have the freezer space its a great thing to do. We've bought two half-pigs recently, one of which was ridiculously cheap at £60 because I butchered it myself, (thank you Youtube and freezer bags). Haven't made bacon yet but it was fantastic to BBQ a massive stack of ribs which cost pennies but tasted fabulous, with smoke provided by applewood twigs.

It's fine, I'm the architect of my own suffering, plus I shouldn't have binged on Chinese food and Stella last night.

Feel for you LSI.

I'm Saturday morning childcare today, I'm barely functioning and all I have to do is sit on a sofa and ignore the noise emanating from CBeebies.

Probably ought to grit my teeth and put some cereal in bowls for the spawns' breakfast...
You...let ..cbeeb in your house??? yikes

Expensive coffee, but you get a free sausage and egg McMuffin with it.

Man-maths win.
hehe

I'm about to experience Spanish Hotel breakfast. Shower is a mighty powerful one, nice, apart from when it gets you in certain areas...

After coffee I can actually have fairly coherrent conversations...

I'm now busy planning a unique ally fabrication project that has advantages over the existing solution, will be larger, more efficient and has a very advantageous secondary function.

Today, I like engineering. In about november time, I predict I'll be cursing engineering . hehe

Did you see the Heston programme the other day where he smoked cheeses in a BBQ?

I thought it might be quite a nice future experiment...especially with the apple trees in the garden...

Didn't see that, but I'm starting to understand a bit about smoking food after my old man showed me how he smokes trout and sausages all sorts of other stuff.

These are good for cold smoking in BBQs apparently: http://www.gardenxl.com/proq-cold-smoke-generator

I only caught the end of it , but I think the gist was to have layers. The twigs or herbs for smoking were in the bottom, then there was a layer of tin foil on the underside of the grills to protect the cheese from the heat, possibly a bowl of water somewhere to act as a heat sync and the cheese on a grill. All vents closed on the BBQ and apparently it only takes 20 minutes.

It was the new "cook like Heston" programme. He went on to use dry ice to make icecream in 5 minutes...

If you can find it on iPlayer or 4OD (or whatever channel is pimping him these days) it was worth a watch. smile

No worries.

It's actually fairly cheap to buy a whole truckle of cheese. If you're willing to experiment with flavours and put up with some "odd experiments", it's probably quite a nice little hobby (if a little fattening).

Gladly.

A text message disturbed me from my slumber. I thought "Who the fk is texting me at six o'clock in the morning?!"

Then I slowly focussed on my watch. Ten o'clock.

Granted, I'd had a few beers and a leeetle bit of whisky last night, but ten o'clock is still a record.

I must have been a very tired little soldier.

Lucky you.

I went up at 11 last night with the alarm set for 4.

"Someone" then decided to want to talk for an hour...and was quite happy to talk to me through my ear plugs. :/
