Loads of people lay into their home town. It's really annoying.
Usually younger types who've yet to explore further afield, lambasting the town their parents raised them in. Really gets on my nerves. It's as if they think they're better than everyone before even having proved themselves in any social or professional circumstance.
My home town is far from perfect, but it has it's charm. I had the option to move away, or into the city, but chose to stay as I have friends and family here and I love the region.
Yes, it's strange. I grew up in North Tyneside, though I'd always considered it more a further reaching part of Newcastle than anything else. Now, there are plenty of things I don't like about Newcastle and it's city centre (vomit, piss and rubbish filled streets come with the weekend revellers who travel from all over to wreck the city), but it's not bad. I could still live in North Tyneside quite happily. Usually younger types who've yet to explore further afield, lambasting the town their parents raised them in. Really gets on my nerves. Where I've moved to now, the young 'uns all want out. Strange that, as it's out in the countryside, surrounded by fields and river. The air is considerably cleaner than in the city. A five minute drive will take you to some of the most fantastic B roads in the country. It's quiet, the locals are reasonably well off and pleasant sorts. I moved here by dint of meeting my missus, who has lived here all her life. When we were looking for a house, we had sadly resigned ourselves to not being able to afford a house in the village as the property values are generally way above our budget, and it was only by a stroke of luck that we managed to move here. The property prices have risen because there is a demand to live here and it's exactly the sort of place someone who has lived in a city would fancy living, because it's just nicer.
Most of my wife's friends don't think so. They're all in their mid 20's now, and ever since I've known them they have generally expressed a desire to get out of the village and move to Newcastle. They've taken to renting small flats (Jesmond: pretty to look at but filled with idiotic students and a seasonal burglary problem or Heaton: slightly glum, unpleasant to look at for the most part and cramped or Gosforth: has a Dominos pizza and is expensive). I expect they'll generally come around to realising how lucky they were to live in the country, and want to come back there, only to find themselves priced out of the market and with little cash in the bank from years of renting.
Basingstoke - where Andover goes to shop
Not surprising really. Andover town center is so bad even McDonalds and Tesco have pulled out, but at least it still has Cash Convertors and Brighthouse. Every other shop is a charity shop though. It seriously makes Basingstoke looks like New York City.

1 - there seems to be loads of PHers there and I've never seen one,
2 - why the hell does anyone live there? It really is at level 9.7 on the moron scale.
