I'd be interested to know the outcome too as I had a Zippo confiscated at an airport in Phoenix.

No I don't smoke, yes I'm aware that may make me look a little weird.

biggrin I like those thumbup

Perhaps add some matte colour ones to the collection to brighten it up a bit? They're pretty cheap on Amazon...

biggrin

eta: Sorry Disastrous, no news yet. Will see my mate later and prompt him a bit.

Does the little keyring one work?

Surprisingly difficult to take this picture without burning the house down but should give you an idea.

OP, I've been meaning to take these for some time, so thank you for reminding me!

My collection....some dross, some very rare, some I made myself. Sorry for the poor images, some behind display cases.

I've always fancied a collection of Vietnam era zippos, much like the ones you have.

Lookout Ebay (and Mr Credit Card)!

I was lucky enough to get in before the price rush in the mid-late 2000's. Good hunting (and if you find a C130 Spectre gunship one I will pay serious money for it!)

Had it for so long I can't remember.

It's a tough little thing though, I had it on my keyring for years thinking it would come apart but it's still rock solid. Needs filling up pretty often as I'm sure you can imagine.

Bank holiday, but my missus was at work. I converted one of her shelves of candles, potpuri, photos and other crap into my zippo manshelf. Still waiting on a Marlboro zippo, the 24 is a 2007 special edition Jeff Gordon zippo.

ETA: Two more showed up today, so updated picture!

Wow....that is epically cool. I'm so full of want!
I'll post a picture of my Chrysler Zippo a bit later when I get home. I also had a Corvette one which I haven't seen for ages now. It's a shame....it was rare and I paid through the nose. It also had the perfect patina thanks to sitting in my pocket with coins smile
I'm not one for concourse pieces. It was a limited edition (40th anniversary) model, but I'd rather use it than see it sit in a collector's box.

That is actually legendary behaviour! I'm massively cheered by the fact that there are other people as obsessive about knowing 'why?' as I am in the world! smile

Just for clarity, München said 'nein' to allowing it in hand luggage and Nürnberg said 'nein' to allowing it in hold baggage without removing the wadding etc.

Hugely grateful to you and your chum as I'd love to know the exact rules on this as I hate how there seems to be no consistency here. If its a straight 'no' all along the line then fair enough; I'd leave it at home but it's a pest that some airports seem to randomly take umbrage to them.

I await his findings with interest and please send him an Internet beer from me.
Not a problem! It seems that the overall authority has no problem with them but maybe individual airports/countries are using their discretion against Zippo lighters. The why part is the real kicker as the bloke who is doing the investigation bit has carried fuelled zippo's all over the world on airlines with no problems. May just be the Germans being over sensitive?

Either way, we shall find out soon thumbup
Just remembered about this? Any word from your chum?

Sorry chap, I had forgotten and I suspect he had too. He has been recently promoted to a slightly different role so I imagine his time to "chase things up" has been reduced wink

I shall see him tonight/tomorrow and get back to you once I have had a word smile

Here are the two I use the most:

Red Jacket Firearms Zippo I purchased when I visited them in the US this summer, and a Jim Beam Zippo I have had for years. I have a few others but need to find them. I'd also buy a PH Zippo if they could do another production run?

Scott.
