Things you always wanted to know the answer to [Vol. 3]
Discussion
Is it usual or now commonplace to have no-one in particular suitable to run our Country? Were things different 'back in the day'?
We just seem to appoint the pick of a bad bunch, I do genuinely wonder if it's always been like that or were there generally more strong contenders years ago.

We have far more career politicians than constituency MPs these days.We just seem to appoint the pick of a bad bunch, I do genuinely wonder if it's always been like that or were there generally more strong contenders years ago.

If the universe was created from a Big Bang where did that take place? And if the universe is constantly expanding, where is it expanding in?
Time and space are properties of our universe, so there's no such thing as a time before the big bang, or space outside the universe. So the big bang occupied the entire universe when it happened, that universe was very small but there was no such thing as outside the universe.I think.

There have been political crises in the past. William Hague has a good book on William Pitt the Younger who history has painted as a talented guy and one of the greats but who was an often massively unpopular guy dealing with crisis after crisis. He spent his first premiership with parliamentary support but unliked by the king, dealing with the national debt which was massive after losing the war in America and was just managing to make headway when the french revolution and the explosion of republicanism in the UK occured, then a King who refused assent to his policies on Ireland (which would have made it like Scotland without devolution) and went mad as well. We just seem to appoint the pick of a bad bunch, I do genuinely wonder if it's always been like that or were there generally more strong contenders years ago.
For his second premiership he had the Napoleoic wars, and by the end he left with a national debt that was twice GDP and halfof parliament wanting his head and repeated attempts to get rid of him except that by now he had the support of the King and none of parliament!
History shows him to be the right man at the right time and it became a defining period of Britishness, but the turmoil around at the time must have made it seem terrifying. He did, at least, have strong opposition.
Blair & co were a talented lot, but the 70's seemed to present a shortage of leaders. You know it's bad when the Prime Minister recons he'd Emigrate if he were a younger man!

I can't remember which 90s superbike it was, there was always a tale that ones that had been well-thrashed from day 1 produced more power
Performance Bikes, Yamaha GTS1000 (EXUP-engined tourer with a Tesi-style front end). They put 10,000 miles on it in a week at the cost of 1500 litres of petrol, two services and 6 points and a big fine for Simon Hargreaves, who was nicked doing 134mph on it.IIRC, it made about 7-8 bhp more at the end of the week.

After watching todays F1; Has a safety car ever crashed whilst leading a race?
Yes. YouTube has a collection. Search safety car crashes. Iirc I can't remember a specific f1 incedent so maybe there hasn't been one but I'm sure indy cars had one barrelling into a car leaving the pit laneNo F1 though? That would be embarrassing...

Question came to mind while watching Police Interceptors yesterday.
If you're a cop working in a role that sometimes requires you to crash into (or be crashed into by) fleeing criminals do you tell your own car insurer when you're getting a quote for the family car? Should you?
"How many accidents have you had in the last 5 years?"If you're a cop working in a role that sometimes requires you to crash into (or be crashed into by) fleeing criminals do you tell your own car insurer when you're getting a quote for the family car? Should you?
"None. All my crashes were deliberate."
