Am finding my feathers platinum blunt very quickly (probably three shaves) - any tips for blades that are as sharp but keep their edge longer?
I find three shaves is about the max I want from them anyway...... they do only cost about 6p each.

Not really, I only tend to use them for three shaves anyway.

then again I do have enough blades for three lifetimes smile

they are cheap enough I would suggest buying a decent blade in bulk and just bin them after a few uses.

I think feathers are about 20p if you buy in bulk. Probably the most expensive you can find there are certainly cheaper options

I bought 100 for about £20 if I recall correctly

The best price I paid for feathers was about 20p each in a pack of 100 I think.

Ditto, £19.45 for 100 with free delivery. If I could get them for 1/3rd of that price, I'd be happy.
I got 200 reds for 7p each. Not quite the same but 1/3 the price. 3 or 4 shaves then bin them. Probably could get them to last longer, but never really tried or felt the need.

I won't start that old debate again. wink

My Edwin Jagger 'Super Badger' has been loosing hair for a while, it needs replaced.

Reccommendations?

I like the look of the Traditional Shaving Co 'wood' brushes, but are they any good?
Speak to EJ customer services and try to blag a replacement. Kent are replacing mine.

I don't know the Kent soap, but it should be good, Kent's a good name.
Its actually Mitchels Woolfat!

They produce it for Kent and I believe they also now rebrand it as Bluebeards revenge soap as well. All the same stuff.

I have the same soap in the same bowl and find it really easy to build a great lather though I gather its quite sensitive to the hardness of your water.

Google 'face lathering' on youtube and see how they do it.
Is it wool fat? Says it's soap on the picture.

It's Mitchell's Woolfat Soap.

John Lewis sells the refills for a fiver.

after I flew away on holiday my shaving cream went weird (see pics). I can only assume it was due to being in the hold - anyone else had this? It is now kind of gloopy and doesn't seem to lather up the same as it did.

Any other recommendations for a different make shaving cream? Must be sandalwood smell as I love it. But just thought I might try a different make as I always use this one. (Must be from a online retailer so I can get it delivered please!)

Here you go:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Taylor-Bond-Street-Sandalw...

The initial outlay includes the wooden bowl.... The refills are obviously less expensive.

Put your shaving brush under the hot tap, squeeze out about 80% of the water, twirl your brush directly onto the soap into the bowl..... And great lather will result. Apply to face! smile

Rinse the soap (within the bowl) under the tap to remove the lather. Dab with towel, put lid back on. A hard soap will last for ever - I think it's more traditional and gives a better lather. No need for a shaving bowl either... Less clutter.

You can take in hand luggage too.... It's not a cream.

I like The Art of Shaving cream - its expensive at £20 a pot and when I was last buying it was out of stock online as far as I could see.

I ordered a Geo F Trumper which was rated highly on a shaving website (with Art of Shaving 2nd) - Geo Trumper was half price. Used it once, it was OK but not sure if it is as good as Art of Shaving cream. But I find getting the amount of cream and water right is a fine art may may need to adjust what i use in the future to get it perfect.

If you are after a good sandalwood shaving cream then I would highly recommend Proraso. Amazing lather and smell!

I started a few days ago.
No more irritation & haven't had any ingrown hairs.
Ok, so it takes me 15-20 minutes to do 3 passes & a final neaten pass, but it's quite relaxing.
Should get my investment back in 4 to 6 months by saving on cartridge razors.
Like all the others who have tried DE shaving - I'm not going back to multi-blade cartridges ever again.

That Proraso soap (in the green packaging as per the pic above, not tried the red tube) is fan-bleedin'-tastic. My current favourite, lathers really well.

And cheap as chips.

I've just bought myself some Proraso shaving cream. I keep coming back to Musgo Real shaving cream because it is exceptional, but it's a bit more expensive and a pain to come by, so I've ordered some Proraso to see if i like it. I use their aftershave lotion and love that.

I've also been using Derby blades recently and i really do not like them. I cut myself almost every shave with them, compared to once or twice a year using feather blades! Can't work out why for the life of me.

After a few shaves, convinced this is now for me, I'm looking to get a shinier razor and try some different blades. Which razor should the wife buy me for my Birthday, PH? smile

I've been looking at this:
Edwin Jagger Chrome-Plated Lined Handle Double-Edge Safety Razor
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003UV8LR0

Any recommendations? £20-40.
